Iraq Economy


The population of Iraq is 38 million with a land area of 168.754 square miles. Labor force is 8.2 million. Labor force by occupation is agriculture 21.6%, industry 18.7%, Services 59.8%. Poverty 41.2% Inflation 2%. Unemployment is 15%.

GDP $192.7 billion (2017 est.). GDP growth is 2.5%. Per capita GDP is $5,165. GDP by sector is agriculture 4.8%, industry 40.6%, services 54.6%.

Main industries include oil, chemicals, textiles, leather, construction materials, food processing, fertilizer, metal fabrication. Ease of doing business rank 165th.

Exports were 63.3 billion with crude oil (99%), food and live animals sold to China 22.8%, India 20.4%, South Korea 11.3%, US 7.8%, Italy 6.7%, Greece 6.1%.

Imports are $36.5 billion with food, medicine and manufacturing sold to Turkey 20.3%, Syria 19.2%, China 18.8%, US 4.7% and Russia 4.3%.

Government revenues are $69.2 billion, spending is $82.6 billion. External debt is $58 billion. Economic aid is $700 billion.
