Syria Economy


Syria reports a population of 18 million with a land area of 71,498 square miles. Labor force is 4 million. Unemployment 50%.  Inflation 30%. Poverty 80%. Per capita GDP is $1,700.

GDP $45 billion (2017 est.). Government revenue $1 billion External debt $10 billion. Exports $1.8 billion. Ease of doing business rank 173rd

Past Main Industries included oil, textiles, food processing, beverages, tobacco, phosphate, rock mining, cement, oil seed crushing and car assembly.

Past Exports included oil, minerals, petroleum products, fruit vegetables, cotton, fiber, clothing, meat, animals and wheat. sold to Lebanon 34.6%, Jordan 11.6%, China 9.4%, Turkey 8.2%, Iraq 7.7%, Tunisia 4.9%..

Imports were $5.6 billion in machinery, vehicles, electric power machinery, food, livestock, metal, chemicals, plastics yarn and paper from Russia 22%, Turkey 20% and China 11.3%

Syria trades with other Muslim countries, plus China and Russia. All are on the same continent.
