Honduras Avoided Civil War 1960-1990

Honduran Welfare Migrants have joined the Caravans to the US. Honduras has not suffered a Communist Civil War, but is located on the Drug Cartel Highway and suffers from high crime rates and has suffered from Cartel-friendly politicians.

Going into the Central American Crisis, Honduras's economy was framed by stagnating agricultural production, de-industrialization, deteriorating terms of trade, the continuing problems of the Central American common market, the decline of international financial reserves, salary decline, and increasing unemployment and underemployment. Honduras, like El Salvador, was increasingly dependent on economic assistance from the United States. In Honduras, efforts to establish guerrilla movements foundered on the generally conservative attitude of the population.

During the Cold War from 1945 to 1990, Communist Rebels took over dozens of countries. The targets were national governments. Honduran citizens did not support a Communist take-over. US troops held large military exercises in Honduras during the 1980s, and trained thousands of Salvadorans in the country. The nation also hosted bases for the Nicaraguan Contras.

Honduras Nominal Per Capita GDP in 2019 is $2,521 with a population of 9.4 million and a land area of 43,423 square miles. Nominal GDP is $23 billion. Poverty is 52.6%.
