Russian War Deaths

Russia lost 400,000 in the French invasion of Russia in 1812. The Napoleonic War lasted from 1803 to 1815 and resulted in the temporary conquest of Europe.

Russia lost 10 million in WWI including 8 million soldiers and 2 million civilians 1914-1918. WWI was the crisis Marxists were looking for. The Russian population was ready to over-through the Russian Monarchy.

Russia lost 9 million in the Communist Revolution 1918-1922. The problem with Communism was that it was a brutal dictatorship that confiscated all property. Foreign investment died and trade was limited. The USSR dissolved in 1989.

Russia lost 30 million in the Communist Purges 1936-1938. Those Russians who objected to their brutal dictatorship were killed and imprisoned

Russia lost 27 million in WW2 including 11 million soldiers and 19 million civilians from 1941 to 1944. Russia seized expanded territory in 1945, but lost it in 1989. Russia played a critical role in winning World War II.
