Europe became
interested in the Americas after 1492. The discovery of America by Spain kicked
off the acquisition of land and resources.
By 1500, many were
sending explorers to catalog resources.
The Dutch were first to establish trading companies and harbor
facilities around the world, closely followed by Spain, Portugal, France and
Britain.
