EU Slammed by Refugee Mess

Highly anticipated EU “deal” on migration is a nothing-burger! by Ann Corcoran 6/29/18.

One potential hurdle for the deal is the fact that the European Union has no uniform rules or procedures for asylum, making it unclear what rules would be applied in a screening center, whether inside or outside Europe.

“I think the people really request two things: First is, no more migrants in,” he said. The second, he said, would be the deportation of those who are already in Europe but do not qualify as refugees.

Because I’ve been telling you in advance about the pow-wow in Brussels yesterday about the migrant invasion of Europe and what the EU will do about it, I’m compelled to give you an update of the disappointing results.

They talked and talked, indeed they talked all night, and came up with what the NY Times even says is a ‘deal’ with “sketchy” details.

Migrants on the “Aquarius” turned away by Italy precipitating the EU’s latest migration crisis TALKS.

The UK Express says it all in its headline: EU Summit FUDGE: Merkel STILL not safe as vague immigration deal DOESN’T solve issues.

EU leaders struggled to overcome deep divisions on migration at a tense EU summit that dragged into the early hours of this morning before producing a fudged agreement, which vaguely pledged to strengthen external borders and explore new migrant centers.

The meeting in Brussels, dominated by a nine-hour working dinner, underscored how Europe’s 2015 migrant crisis continues to haunt the crisis-hit bloc.

French President Macron at the gathering:  “Europe will have to live for a long time with the migration of people from countries in crisis and poor countries.” And, then Western Civilization will be done (of course, he didn’t say that last bit).

It took place in an atmosphere of political crisis for German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is under intense political pressure at home, and a new eurosceptic Italian government threatening to torpedo any deal that did not meet its demands.

A bleary-eyed Mrs Merkel, speaking to reporters at 4am, tried to put a positive spin on the result, saying it was a good signal that leaders had been able to agree a common text on the controversial migration issue.

The leaders agreed to set up joint asylum processing sites and restrict migrant movement within the bloc, but they made clear that virtually all of their pledges would be carried out on a “voluntary basis” by member states.

This means countries can opt in or out of the agreement and it was unclear which countries would volunteer to host the centers.

So, a country could set up a detention center if it wants to in order to gather together all of the migrants (from across Europe!) and sort them out.  Sure, that is going to happen!

And, oh boy, send more money to Turkey and Africa to prevent migration. WTH! (Erdogan must be laughing his head off!).

The Express continues….In a final statement full of convoluted language, leaders also agreed to tighten their external border and increase financing for Turkey, Morocco and other North African states to prevent migration to Europe.

Diplomats described a tense and tortured meeting with small groups of leaders huddled together in a desperate bid to break the deadlock and avert the humiliation of heading home without having produced an agreement. Geez, I think they should be humiliated by the agreement they will bring home!

The New York Times tells us (regarding the issue of sorting out the migrants in a mythical detention center between legitimate asylum seekers and economic migrants) that the EU doesn’t even have any criteria for determining legitimate asylum seekers/refugees. The NY Times called Hungarian PM Orban “characteristically harsh.”

Inside Europe, the proposed centers would house migrants until they are screened, with the idea of deciding their fate more efficiently and sending back those who do not qualify as refugees. But no country has so far volunteered to host such a center. (LOL! So will they detain the children with their parents?)

But setting up any such center would be a significant change from the current system, under which migrants must be screened in the European country where they first arrive and are registered.

A voice of common sense….In Brussels, the Hungarian prime minister, Victor Orban, was characteristically harsh.

So true! And, Donald Trump should follow Orban’s prescription for our borders as well! NOW!

Spokane, Washington: Secret decoder ring needed in kidnap case, by Ann Corcoran 6/28/18.

A 28-year-old “man” has been arrested in a violent kidnapping case, luckily the woman fought back and escaped.

Ann Coulter once said that the way news stories are written about crime cases involving migrants and refugees one needs a “secret decoder ring” to figure out what nationality the alleged attacker is and what might be his or her immigration status.

Reader Linda sent me the story from Spokane and this morning I had a few minutes to search news stories about the arrest of Atif Ado.

After reading a couple of stories, I’m concluding that he is most likely a refugee.  The last name Ado is a common surname in Niger, but we don’t generally take refugees from Niger. 

According to the US State Department’s data base, Wrapsnet, Spokane welcomed (in the last ten years) 344 refugees from the DR Congo, 117 from Eritrea, 149 from Somali and 192 from Sudan.

Before I tell you more, here is one of several local news stories about the attack. This one gives us our first real clue! I’d like to know though if there are any curious reporters out there willing to find out exactly how the alleged kidnapper got in to the US.

From KXLY: SPOKANE, Wash. – A woman managed to fight off an attacker on the TJ Meenach bridge shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The man accused of attacking her, 28-year-old Atif Ado, appeared in court Monday morning. A judge set his bond at $100,000. Ado also had a translator to translate the proceedings into Arabic.  

The interpreter is shown over Ado’s left shoulder in the photo.  Be sure to watch the video that accompanies the KXLY story.

Ado is accused of attacking that woman near the bridge and attempting to pull her into a secluded area where they couldn’t be seen.

According to court documents, that woman says a man yelled to her near the bridge that he needed help with his car. She said she could not assist him and kept walking.

But, as she tried to take a shortcut home through some trees, the victim says her attacker grabbed her and pointed a bb gun at her head.

“In this particular instance, this guy had very realistic replica firearm in his pocket,” said Spokane Police Department Public Information Officer John O’Brien. “Who’s to know what is and what isn’t a real gun?”

Court documents say the victim struggled with her attacker as she tried to climb a hill to escape. As she called 911, the attacker pulled her back down the hill where she fought him off once again, this time getting out for good.

“I’m glad this woman was able to get away, fighting back and get away from that situation,” O’Brien said.

Ado is scheduled to make his next court appearance on July 3 at 9:30. More here. Okay, so we know he needed an Arabic translator. BTW, if you didn’t know, Arabic is the number one language spoken by refugees admitted to the US.

Arabic is also the number one language spoken in the Sudan and is a working language in Eritrea and Somalia, but not a recognized language in the DR Congo (he also doesn’t have the broad features of the Congolese).  So we can do some speculating narrowing down his nationality.

For critics who don’t like me speculating about his immigration status or nationality, all I can say is that we are entitled to know which immigration program admitted this man or if he is here illegally.

And, if you don’t want the word “refugee” further sullied, you should join me in demanding that the public is fully informed of immigration status by the police and the media, or otherwise we will assume, based on the evidence we can find, that he is a refugee (who wasn’t thoroughly screened!).

Note to local Spokane reporters….Check out World Relief Spokane, the primary federally-funded resettlement agency there. See if they will admit that he is one of theirs.

Gang Killing in NY

Seven Suspects Arrested in Connection with Bronx Teen’s Murder, by Katherine Rodrigues, 6/25/18, Breitbart.

Police arrested seven suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a 15-year-old Bronx boy, and authorities say they are looking to make further arrests.

The Passaic County Prosecutors Office announced Monday afternoon that they arrested six of the suspects on suspicion of murder in Paterson, New Jersey, late Sunday afternoon, NJ.com reported.

Authorities identified the six men apprehended in Paterson as Jose Taverez, 21; Danel Fernandez, 21; Santiago Rodriguez, 24; Jonike Martinez, 24; Manuel Rivera, 18; and Jose Muniz, 21.

Of the six men, all are from New York except Muniz, who is from Paterson. All six are being held at Paterson Police Headquarters awaiting extradition hearings Tuesday afternoon.

NYPD officials identified a seventh suspect — Kevin J. Alvarez, 19 — and charged him with second-degree murder, manslaughter, assault, and gang assault. Alvarez was arrested in the Bronx.

It is unclear whether police are going to arrest and identify additional suspects. Authorities said tips on the whereabouts of the suspects led them to arrest the alleged Trinitarios gang members in Paterson and in the Bronx. Police say they have also identified a person of interest in the Dominican Republic.

It is not clear whether the members of the Trinitarios gang — a Dominican gang based out of New York’s Rikers Island prison — are American citizens.

The gang members dragged Lesandro Guzman-Feliz, 15, out of a Bronx bodega on East 183rd Street Wednesday night and allegedly butchered him to death with a machete, mistaking the innocent teen for someone else.

The teen suffered multiple stab wounds to his neck and collapsed to the ground not too far from a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police say the Guzman-Feliz’s death was the result of a “mistaken identity over a sex tape” when the teen got involved in the deadly dispute with the gang.

A gang leader later told one of Guzman-Feliz’s relatives that he was “sorry” about killing the wrong person.

Investigators said the victim let his mother know he was going to the store a block away from his residence to repay a debt or lend money to a friend, but he never came home that night.

UN Refugee Scam

The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) is responsible for the refugee mess. The US needs to quit the UN and stop funding it, stop refugee access to US welfare and send all refugees back to their home countries.

What else is new! I’ve been following this issue for over ten years and I have never seen the UNHCR report anything but doom and gloom—more people than ever (every year!) need to be resettled in a better country than the one they left. Nothing changes while the US taxpayer foots most of the bill!

And, heck, we haven’t yet reached the “migrant apocalypse” stage yet.

I’m putting this out in case any of you want to read what the UN has to say about the “widening gap” in its latest report, this time for 2019.

Here is a bit of their press report: UNHCR Projected Global Resettlement Needs 2019 -  UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, today warned of a widening gap between the number of refugees in need of resettlement and the places made available by governments around the world.

In its Projected Global Resettlement Needs 2019 report tabled at its annual forum on the subject in Geneva, UNHCR said the number of refugees who need a solution in third countries had grown to a projected 1.4 million in 2019, while the number of resettlement places globally had dropped to just 75,000 in 2017. On these figures, it would take 18 years for the world’s most vulnerable refugees to be resettled.

Increasing opportunities for refugees to move to third countries is a key objective in the new comprehensive approach to refugee situations agreed to by 193 UN Member States in the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants in September 2016, and a central plank of a new global compact on refugees to come before the UNGA by the end of 2018. [That September 2016 meeting was Obama’s doings.—ed]

When they say “move to third countries,” that means the migrants have removed themselves from where they say they were being persecuted and (presumably) have filed for asylum in the country on the map below.

Share responsibility for global displacement? Because they can’t govern themselves, because they are always fighting among themselves for religious or tribal reasons, it becomes our responsibility?

UNHCR continues…“Resettlement is not only a critical lifeline for some of the most vulnerable people on the planet, it’s also a tangible way governments and communities can better share responsibility for the global displacement crisis. We urgently need more countries to enter the ranks of resettlement states and for those already on board to find ways to increase their programs,” Grandi said.

Climate refugees: Migrant apocalypse still to come says Canadian writer, by Ann Corcoran 6/25/18.

And some, like the Polish, Hungarian and Austrian governments, and now the Italian government as well, have effectively decided to close the borders now.

Faithful readers know that I have been following the Leftwing/Open Borders drumbeat and warning about climate refugees for years.  See my category on the topic here.

Posted at the London Free Press, Canadian writer Gwynne Dyer says what we are seeing in Europe is a “dress rehearsal for the real migrant apocalypse” to come.

Blaming it on climate change, he says that all borders will be closed and people will be left to die.

He mentions (without giving us his opinion) that Hungary, Poland, Italy and Austria are already there. Economic migrants!

I think he is right—-not the global warming part—that the populations of the third world are growing so rapidly and there simply aren’t jobs enough for mostly young men (in Africa, certain parts of Asia, and in Central and South America) due to the changing nature of work, and so an apocalypse is coming.

My view, not Dyer’s, is that how we handle the “dress rehearsal” depends on tough-minded leaders like Donald Trump, Viktor Orban, Sebastian Kurz and Matteo Salvini to save some parts of the first world for our children and grandchildren.

Gwynne Dyer: Climate change will precipitate migrant apocalypse

Around two million migrants have entered Europe claiming to be refugees since 2014, which doesn’t sound like an unbearable burden. After all, the EU has 500 million citizens. Little Lebanon has let in about the same number, although they amount to almost half its own native population.

But three factors aggravate the situation in Europe. One is that the refugees in Lebanon have the same language, culture and religion as most of the Lebanese, whereas the ones who reach Europe don’t tick any of those boxes.

The second is that only a few of the EU’s 28 countries are carrying almost all of the burden: Italy, Spain and Greece, where the migrant boats arrive, and Germany, which took in almost a million migrants in 2015.

The final factor is that many of the migrants aren’t fleeing war or persecution. They are hoping for a better life in Europe than the one they left behind, and are willing to face great risks and hardships to get it.

So, the humanitarian impulse is blunted by cynicism about the migrants’ motives, and the unequal distribution of the migrant burden among the various EU member states breeds conflict between and inside those countries. The politics already is getting poisonous, and this is only a dress rehearsal for the real migrant apocalypse.

Even now, many of the “economic migrants” are really climate refugees, although they would probably not use that phrase themselves.

The changing climate will devastate food production in large parts of the Middle East and Africa, and far larger numbers of people than now will abandon their homes and head for Europe. Nobody talks about this in public, but every European government that does serious long-term planning is well aware of it.

This vision of the future colors every decision they make about migrants, for the tougher-minded among them know the borders eventually will have to be closed even if it means leaving people to die.

So is Dyer saying those governments are forward-thinking by trying to save themselves and their own people, or heartless for not inviting in all of Africa?

The policies of those governments whose citizens are fleeing are the major cause for their flight.  They do not allow their citizens to be self-supporting enough to feed and shelter themselves. They would rather create wild animal preserves and tourist attractions for their wealthy friends.

I think these migrants are simply taking advantage of the socialist policies of the countries they invade. This would all end if these countries shut off their welfare subsidies to non-citizens and refused to allow an easy path to citizenship for the migrants.

EU Refugee Crunch

Mama Merkel update: Nothing resolved in special EU meeting yesterday, try again Thursday, by Ann Corcoran 6/25/18

Invasion of Europe news…..As we reported last week, a special EU meeting was called for yesterday as the political pressure mounts on German Chancellor Angela Merkel to do something to control the migrant population that continues to grow in Germany.  See Merkel between a rock and a hard place in age of ‘Aquarius.’

Besties French Prez Macron and Merkel.  Macron in la-la land:   “We are living through a political crisis more than a migratory crisis today.”

I’m struck here by the similarity to our situation on the Mexican border where Donald Trump is both trying to stem the flow in to the US, and attempting to kill the catch and release policy of previous presidents (the major pull factor for those gambling on entering the US).

The answer is the same for Europe—stop the in-flow and hold for sorting all those who have gotten in by building detention centers. Sort out legitimate asylum seekers from economic migrants who can be quickly deported. Don’t let them roam free across Europe!

From the CT Post: European leaders met Sunday in Brussels to discuss the contentious issue of migration, which is threatening to topple German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government, but they appeared to be far from coming to a common agreement on how to redistribute the burden among themselves.

Merkel has been badly weakened in recent weeks by an anti-migration rebellion inside her own conservative coalition, making her more vulnerable than at any other point in her 13-year leadership. And Italy’s new government has unveiled a sweeping set of anti-immigration proposals that would more quickly send migrants back out of Europe.

Even though new arrivals have dropped, the political consequences of migration pressures are still reverberating around Europe. Merkel is seeking a way to redistribute already-arrived migrants across the continent. Italy, a front-line state to asylum seekers and migrants coming from northern Africa, is more focused on the initial arrivals and on avoiding what it says is an unfair burden that has been placed on it by countries to its north.

Although no formal agreements were reached Sunday, ahead of a full summit on Thursday, the toughened attitudes toward migrants were on stark display. At stake could be the European Union’s prized borderless movement in the area known as the Schengen zone, which is the foundation for many other aspects of European integration.

Looks like detention centers is a major consideration, the question is where to establish those camps. One proposal from European Council President Donald Tusk is to find spots outside Europe to sort economic migrants from people with legitimate asylum claims. Another from French President Emmanuel Macron is to establish closed camps inside Europe where migrants could await the outcome of their claims.

They must do both, and so must we: stop the in-flow as Italy says and detain everyone else (who got in in previous years) for sorting.

(By the way there is talk of camps in North Africa to be used for sorting and over the weekend I read that they were considering Albania.)
