Manufacturing Returns

Some manufacturing will come to large metro areas. Pop Displays is moving its manufacturing from Yonkers NY to East Point GA.

Pop Displays will move its headquarters and 54 jobs from Yonkers NY to Rye Brook NY. It will move its manufacturing operations and 250 jobs to East Point GA.  Pop Displays designs and manufactures retail displays.

Yonkers NY is on the Hudson River just north of Manhattan. Rye Brook is further north by Connecticut.
East Point GA is a city in the South Atlanta Metro.

Georgia is a Right to Work State and responded to the electronics boom in the 1980s. Manufacturing operations moved from the unionized northern states beginning in the 1960s to escape their labor unions. Now most union employees work for the government, the utilities or really dumb companies.

East Point GA is 80% Black. I expect adult minorities will move to manufacturing and vacate the minimum wage fast food jobs as this economy restores itself.

Minimum wage fast-food and retail jobs need to be filled by 16 to 20 year old students working part-time and summers.

Right to Work States

States who have adopted “Right to Work” laws have an advantage in attracting manufacturing jobs. Employees in Right to Work States are not required to join a union and pay union dues, even if they are employed in a bargaining unit.

The following 26 states have right-to-work laws:
Alabama (adopted 1953, Constitution 2016)
Arizona (Constitution, adopted 1946)
Arkansas (Constitution, adopted 1947)
Florida (Constitution, adopted 1944, revised 1968)
Georgia (adopted 1947)
Idaho (adopted 1985)
Indiana (adopted, 2012)
Iowa (adopted 1947)
Kansas (Constitution, adopted 1958)
Kentucky (adopted 2017)
Louisiana (adopted 1976)
Michigan (adopted, 2012)
Mississippi (Constitution, adopted 1954)
Nebraska (Constitution and statute, adopted 1946)
New Mexico (ChavesEddyLeaLincolnOteroRoosevltSandoval, and San Juan Counties 2018)
Nevada (adopted 1951)
North Carolina (adopted 1947)
North Dakota (adopted 1947)
Oklahoma (Constitution, adopted 2001)
South Carolina (adopted 1954)
South Dakota (adopted 1946)
Tennessee (adopted 1947)
Texas (adopted 1947, revised 1993)
Utah (adopted 1955)
Virginia (adopted 1947)
Wisconsin (adopted 2015)
Wyoming (adopted 1963)

In addition, the territory of Guam also has right-to-work laws, and employees of the US federal government have the right to choose whether or not to join their respective unions.

New Hampshire adopted a right-to-work bill in 1947, but it was repealed in 1949. The legislature of Missouri passed a right-to-work bill in 2017, but the law was defeated in a 2018 referendum before it could take effect. West Virginia passed a right-to-work law in 2016, in 2019 a circuit court struck down the law.

Non-Right to Work States

Non-Right to Work States require employees in a bargaining unit to pay labor union dues.  Smart companies will avoid unions if they can.  These States are less likely to add manufacturing jobs except where they supply heavily unionized customers and need to be located close to these customers in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania

Many of these States have high taxes and high cost of living like California, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut

Several have high debt and are losing population like California and Illinois.

Several are split evenly between Democrat and Republican and have attempted to become Right to Work States and will continue to do so like West Virginia and Missouri. Other conservative States include Kentucky,

Several are tightly entrenched in Democrat politics and unionization like California, Oregon, Washington, New York and New Jersey.

The 26 Non-Right to Work (Forced Unionism) states are:
Alaska
California Colorado Connecticut Delaware Hawaii Illinois Kentucky Maine Maryland Massachusetts Michigan Minnesota Missouri Montana New Hampshire New Jersey New Mexico New York Ohio Oregon Pennsylvania Rhode Island Vermont Washington West Virginia

Non Right to Work States voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Hillary won narrow victories in Oregon, Nevada. Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado,  Delaware, Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Virginia,

Hillary won decisively in California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington,

Hillary won completely in DC.

Comments
Most Non Right to Work States are Blue States and voted Democrat in the 2016 Presidential Election. This includes States with high government employee populations where labor unions control the State Legislatures. But in the 2016 election, union members voted for Trump, who promised to bring manufacturing jobs back to the US.

Science and God

Dr. John Lennox video covers science and God. Science and God are not at odds. Socrates asked questions and that motivated Dr. Lennox to learn all views. He sought to see how Math fits in Science. Then sought to see how the Laws of Nature fit into big issues of existence.

CS Lewis focused on how Science fits. He understood what Newton and Galileo knew. They sought to know the laws of nature, because nature gives us an understanding of the “Law Giver”.  We rely on reason to understand what is true and Atheism isn’t true and rejects rational thought.

Einstein said the universe was comprehensible. He saw how well mathematics works within the Laws of Nature. Belief in God as the Creator and Law Giver is strengthened as we better understand math and science.

Comments

In Science, a theory doesn’t become a law until it is continually and completely verified through experimentation. Theories like evolution and climate change do not meet the test.

Liberal Marxists have advanced fake science for political purposes.

Socialism is the Problem

Our standard of living requires political stability, small limited government, a large private sector, the rule of law, absence of corruption, individual property rights, investment capital, resources, freedom, a free market economy and individual productivity operating in a meritocracy.

Globally, we have more affluent citizens in large cities and more poverty in rural areas, particularly in poor countries. Only 60 countries have poverty rates under 20%. Only 50 countries have a per capita GDP over $17,500. But 121 countries report a per capita GDP below $17,500.

In the US socialists and small government free market fans are split 50-50. But the socialists took over the US education system 40 years ago, so many of our young people have been trained to be socialists. We elected Trump in 2016 to restore our economy and this is happening.  The 2020 election will determine whether or not we continue to restore our economy and remove our government corruption. We have a 2 party system and expect a Trump victory in 2020. The US has been rotting from within because our politicians have been voting for socialist policies and we need to “drain the swamp” to restore the US Constitution (as originally written).

In Europe socialists have ruled for 40 years but citizens are not happy with their EU policies and standard of living. Europe once led the planet in developing capitalism, but they have forgotten their history. They were seduced by their governments to accept more “security” and less “freedom”. Europe has a multi-party political system with socialist parties in the majority.

The Cost of Printing Money

How the Feds Sedated American Capitalism, By Bill Bonner, 3/28/19.

GUALFIN, ARGENTINA – A Diary Dictum: People are neither always bad nor always good, but always subject to influence.

Want to know why tax cuts, spending increases, and EZ money from the Fed don’t work? Wonder how the feds could add $4 trillion in new money, suppress interest rates below zero for an entire decade, add $13 trillion in deficit spending, and still end up with the weakest expansion ever?
What’s the matter with “stimulus,” anyway?

Try this experiment at home. Tell your teenager that he will get $5,000 a month for the rest of his life, and a lifetime supply of marijuana. See how that stimulates him. Think he’ll study harder… work harder…?

We remind readers that we’re down in Argentina studying the evidence firsthand. Despite runaway budgets, out-of-control spending, and lusty, gaucho printing-press money – that is, despite “stimulus” up the kazoo – the Argentine economy is now in a depression, with a 6% annual loss of GDP and an inflation rate estimated as high as 100%.
Why?

TS = rv (w-w – w-l). Total Satisfaction equals the real value of win-win deals minus win-lose deals.

Our formula recognizes that money isn’t everything. So, it focusses on satisfaction, rather than GDP or raw wealth.
It also recognizes that win-lose deals are negative… They subtract from total satisfaction because they force you to do something you don’t want to do. When a stick-up man confronts you in an alley, for example, he takes your wallet and greatly reduces your satisfaction.

But the biggest win-lose deals are much more subtle. Most people don’t even know they’re being robbed. And yet, these hidden win-lose deals too greatly reduce net satisfaction, which shows up in lower incomes, less growth, and poorer people.

Remember, win-lose is the opposite of a win-win. In a win-win deal, wealth is created as people do things for one another.

They work. They learn. They save. They take chances. They trade with one another. Not because they want to… but because they have to. And little by little, as they succeed at satisfying each other’s wants, progress happens.

In a bakery, for example, the baker gets to work at 4 a.m… kneading his dough in the wee hours, so that the sweet smell of freshly baked bread will draw in the customers at dawn. He would probably prefer to stay abed. But nobody’s going to pay him to sleep in.

Now, suppose something strange happened. Imagine that the Bakers Union hired a particularly powerful lobbyist who persuaded Congress to pass the Bakers’ Income Enhancement Act. This law changed the win-win deal into a win-lose deal, requiring customers to pay the baker whether he baked any bread or not.

The baker… a nice fellow… might still feel an obligation to put out a few loaves. Out of habit, he would probably get to work early and fire up his ovens. But after a while, he would probably slack off. He’s only human!

Well, guess what. Capitalists… investors… businessmen… and speculators are no different. Like the lucky bakers or the lucky teenager, imagine that they don’t have to work so hard.
Imagine that they can make profits without risk. Imagine that someone gives them money without demanding any quid pro quo. Imagine that the feds force a win-lose deal on the whole country… in which, a few people – the rich, the insiders, the elite – get money without having to give anything in exchange.

Would they work harder? Would they still take long-term risks with their money in order to develop new products and services for consumers?

If the stock market were rising at 10% per year, would they still invest their money in new plants, new equipment, and new lines of business that might earn them – if they work out – 5%?

Is it because they are saints that they do the hard work of capitalism… or because they have to produce some real product or service in order to earn a profit?

We have the answer to these questions right in front of us. For the last 30 years, capitalists could take advantage of a special win-lose deal offered by the feds. They didn’t need to work so hard… They didn’t need to save their money. They didn’t need to take chances.

In effect, the feds took money from the public – via taxes, artificially low interest rates, debt, and printing-press money – and gave it to the elite.

The insiders could borrow from the Fed at a rate near zero (after inflation). And then, they could buy stocks and watch them go up from Dow 2,600 in 1989 to Dow 26,000 in 2018.
Or, they could do even better… with buybacks, mergers, bonuses, or special dividends, funded by the Fed’s win-lose fake money.

With the Fed’s fake money available to them, capitalists didn’t put their money and talents to work – in win-win deals – for the benefit of others. Because they didn’t have to. Win-lose financial tricks were much more profitable.
Corporate borrowing hit new records. So did stock buybacks and stock prices. And crazy startups, like Uber, Wag, and WeWork, can hit billion-dollar valuations without ever earning a penny.

But net of inflation and depreciation, real capital investment – the essential ingredient in a capitalist economy – fell to zero.

CALIFORNIA FARMER REGISTERS HIS GUNS ONLINE, THEN GETS CHARGED WITH A DOZEN FELONIES, by  STEVEN AHLE, 3/28/19.

California now demands you register every gun you have and you can do it right online. But, if you do so, you are touched in the head. A prestigious California farmer went online to register his guns like any law-abiding citizen might.

That was the beginning of his nightmare. Police showed up at his house one day with a search warrant and they confiscated all of his guns and placed him under arrest because they claim one of the guns was illegally modified.

He has been charged with a dozen felonies and is facing some serious prison time for trying to obey the law.

From Defense Maven - Bakersfield, CA – A member of a prominent farming family was charged with a dozen weapons-related felonies, after he attempted to comply with California’s state-mandated gun registration laws.

According to court documents, Jeffrey Scott Kirschenmann’s home was raided in April, after he attempted to register an AR-15 using the state of California’swebsite, KGET reported.

Kirschenmann is the CEO of Scott Kirschenmann Farms, Inc., which is one of the chief potato suppliers for Frito Lay.

According to court documents, the weapon was “illegally modified,” and served as grounds for the Department of Justice (DoJ) to raid Kirschenmann’s home.

It’s not immediately clear what the illegal modification was, but the rifle was presumably not in compliance with the recent bans

Investigators seized two “silencers,” 230 rounds of ammunition, and 12 firearms in the search, KGET reported.

On May 17, the district attorney’s office charged Kirschenmann with a dozen felony weapons-related charges.

He was subsequently released on $150,000 bond.

Gay Agenda

The LGBT subculture is more than capable of establishing their own bakeries, churches and adoption agencies. But they prefer to engage in social engineering designed to turn the US into a Police State. I suspect a Marxist connection to this. I wonder if LGBT really stands for Local General Blight Theory. They are becoming liberal politicians and government employees in alarming numbers.

This state’s lesbian attorney general is forcing Christians to do something that will make your jaw drop, 3/27/19, Culture Watch

LGBT activists want to punish Christian organizations and charities. Now they’ve found a new target to attack in the worst way possible.

And what this state’s lesbian Attorney General is forcing Christian adoption agencies to do just crossed the line. Christian adoption agencies have historically had strict rules for who can adopt a child.

These rules are in place to protect the child and ensure they are placed with parents properly equipped to raise them. Naturally, they also seek candidates that share their Christian values.

But Michigan’s lesbian Attorney General, Dana Nessel, is determined to put an end to it. Dana Nessel is ordering all Christian adoption agencies to allow same-sex parents to adopt children.

The Christian Post reports: Adoption and foster care agencies in Michigan who contract with the state can no longer refuse to place children with qualified same-sex parents over religious reasons thanks to a legal settlement Friday that some fear will put faith-based agencies out of business.

Democrat Attorney General Dana Nessel and the two same-sex couples represented by the American Civil Liberties Union came to a legal agreement that a 2015 law allowing religious-based adoption agencies to refuse adoption services to same-sex couples violates federal discrimination laws.

The agreement settled a federal complaint filed in 2017 after the couples were refused service by St. Vincent Catholic Charities and Bethany Christian Services…

Under its nondiscrimination provision, agencies looking to partner with the state cannot turn away or refuse a same-sex couple or individual who is suitable to foster or adopt a child.
Dana Nessel is interfering with a private Christian adoption agency to push her own personal LGBT agenda.

Studies show that children raised by a mother and father have better outcomes than those raised in single parent or same-sex households.

It is also a massive violation of the First Amendment. But LGBT activists don’t care about the Constitution. They want to force everyone to accept their lifestyle.

Transgender Athletes

High School Athletic Conference forced transgenderism on its athletes and you won’t believe how this Christian School responded, 3/27/19, Culture Watch.

Liberals are hell-bent on forcing their transgender agenda down the throats of every American. Now they’re targeting high school children. And you won’t believe how this Christian school responded.

Common sense (and science) tells you that males are genetically stronger and faster than females on average. That’s why, since the inception of sports, men and women have competed separately.

But liberals are determined to change that.  LGBT activists believe everyone should bend over backwards and accept men who identify as women to compete in female sports. Basketball, wrestling, MMA – it’s all on the table. Of course, this is all in the name of so-called “equality.”

But one Christian high school has had enough.
Grace Brethren Christian School is an independent school in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

After their athletic conference began allowing transgender students to compete in their gender identity and not their biological sex, the Christian school decided to exit the conference.

And they didn’t mince words. “[Schools] that allow boys to play on girls’ teams is a form of cheating [and] it gives them an advantage over girls teams who only play female athletes,” wrote the school’s director, George Hornickel.

“We are a Christian school and hold to the biblical teaching from Genesis 1:27 and other related passages which states, ‘So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created them, male and female He created them.’ This is how it has been throughout the history of the world, and we believe there are only two sexes: male and female,” Hornickel wrote.

“When guys identifying as transgendered girls begin making up the rosters of female teams, girls who otherwise could have started are now coming off the bench, and girls who were the reserves may not make the teams,” Hornickel wrote.

Unlike Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who said it was a “myth” that men competing in women’s weightlifting contests would have a direct competitive advantage, most Americans see through the charade unless they have their progressive blinders on.

The issue of transgender “males” competing in sports is becoming a huge issue for the LGBT community.

But when there are biological males competing against biological females in wrestling – or worse, MMA – women could get seriously hurt.

The school is right to exit the conference. More schools should follow suit.

The number one job for schools is to protect and educate children. If you’re teaching them that men and women aren’t biologically different, you’re not teaching them nor keeping them safe.

Deregulating Healthcare

We are beginning to reverse government regulation of healthcare that has resulted in unsustainable costs. Georgia is ending “certificate of need” requirements and Trump is calling for the end of Obamacare. Medicaid is failing as more Physicians refuse to take Medicaid patients. Corporate healthcare is corrupt and needs to be cleaned up.

Government’s seizure of healthcare began in 1964 with the creation of Medicare and Medicaid. Technology was available to apply to medical equipment and US manufacturers wanted government subsidies for these expensive devices. US companies did not want to fund retiree health insurance themselves and supported the creation of Medicare.  Vatican II in 1962 heralded the beginning of the end of low cost Catholic hospitals.

Labor unions had long demanded welfare for workers and the US Constitution had been sufficiently damaged to allow the federal government to avoid constitutional restraints. Companies began subsidizing health insurance for workers in the 1940s in response to wage freezes and war production.

Insurance had always been a cash-flow device with premiums based on risk.  It was never intended to be a welfare program. Healthcare for the poor was done by county health facilities and Physicians’ charity practices.

My grandfather practiced fee-based medicine Monday through Friday in his St. Louis office and operatory and did house calls at night.  He spent his Saturdays treating poor truck farmers in his home town at his own expense and was reimbursed with produce from the farm. Catholic hospitals were owned and staffed by religious orders of Nuns and individual health insurance was $24 per month. My grandfather practiced medicine from 1905 to 1962.

The mandatory treatment for indigent patients in all hospitals began when counties began to abandon their county health facilities. This created cost shifting to paying customers and this began in the 1970s..

In Atlanta, Grady Hospital is subsidized by taxes from DeKalb and Fulton Counties, but also treats patients from all surrounding counties. It started with designating Grady as a regional facility and became a dumping ground.

If you are injured in an automobile accident, you are likely to be taken to Grady and your car will be towed to a government lot that charges $15 per day until you can remove your car.  If you are in a coma, this could get expensive, because your relatives are not allowed to have your car moved from the government lot.. Your ambulance bill will be $800.

Patients need more control over where they are sent for treatment. Counties need to revisit county health services.

Leftist Destruction

Video by Dennis Prager, 3/28/16.

Leftism destroys everything it touches’: PragerU details how the Left has ruined everything from our universities to the Boy Scouts [WATCH]
https://www.prageru.com/video/the-left-ruins-everything/

If you look at the world through a conservative, liberty-minded, or other traditional lens, it’s not hard to get the feeling that the Left ruins everything. A new video from PragerU lists nine things that it definitely has.

“If what I’m about to tell you is true,” radio host and PragerU founder Dennis Prager begins, “almost everything we most treasure — freedom, beauty, reason, the family, economic well-being, and even goodness — is in jeopardy.”

Prager shows how “leftism destroys everything it touches”: universities, the arts, literature, late-night television, religion, free speech, race, the Boy Scouts, and basic human biology.

“So why does the Left engage in so much destruction?” the video concludes. “Because it thinks America is essentially a bad country.”

US Police State

How America Becomes a Police State, By Doug Casey, 3/27/19.

Editor’s Note: If history has taught us anything, it’s that those in power will do anything to stay in power. The staying power of the “Deep State” – the loosely connected cabal of government insiders and entrenched special interests – has been a regular topic in the Diary for years.

But where is this all headed? In tonight’s special evening edition of the Diary, legendary speculator Doug Casey takes up the question. As you’ll see, Doug believes a police state in America isn’t just possible… it’s quickly approaching.

Is a police state in the U.S. possible? Absolutely.
That’s because people are essentially the same the world over, regardless of their culture, religion, race, or what-have-you. A certain percentage of them are sociopaths.
There is a standard distribution of sociopaths across time and space. It’s a function of Pareto’s Law, better known as the 80-20 rule.

20% of the people do 80% of the work. Another 20% are responsible for 80% of the crime. 20% of the population always winds up with 80% of the wealth. And so forth, through all areas of human endeavor. This observation can be represented by a bell-shaped curve – a “standard distribution” – with a small minority at each extreme, but the large majority in the middle.

The people who will take us to a police state are sociopaths – criminal personalities who don’t respect the liberty or property of others. And sociopaths gravitate towards government, and eventually come to control it.

My view is that 80% of human beings are basically decent, get along, go along types. 20% are what you might call potential trouble sources, that can go either way. But then you take 20% of that 20% and you’re dealing with the sociopaths.

When social conditions reach a certain stage, these really bad guys come out from under their rocks and take advantage of the situation. We’re seeing that right now in the U.S., across the political spectrum. Just as we’ve seen in the past in hundreds of places throughout history.

A major tipping point occurred almost 18 years ago, on September 11, 2001, with the attacks in New York and Washington, DC. They were disastrous. But not nearly as disastrous as the government’s reaction to them.

Among them, the creation of the Department of Homeland Security. Anybody who speaks German knows that a reasonable translation of Homeland Security is Geheime Staatspolizei, which is usually abbreviated to Gestapo.

Anybody that goes through airline security these days should ask themselves, “Where the hell did they find these people? Didn’t they have jobs before they went to work for this moronic agency?”

The answer is that there are people out there who like wearing costumes, are willing to boss, herd, interrogate, and go through the dirty laundry of their fellow citizens. They take their jobs seriously and you better not even look at them sideways. There’s no reason to believe it’s going to get better as they groove into their jobs, and their employer cements itself into place. More likely the trend will accelerate.

Is America currently a police state? Well, let’s see. You can still get in your car and go anywhere, although you might be stopped by the police and you might be detained if your papers aren’t in order. Or if the officer thinks you’re not properly respectful. Or if you have “too much” cash.

Was there any particular day that Germany became a police state in the 1930s? I’m not sure you can put your finger on any one particular day, even after Hitler was legally and democratically elected.

It was a progression, with new laws, new regulations, new taxes every day, while more fear and hysteria were worked up among the populace. Kristallnacht didn’t occur the day after the National Socialists took power.

It’s a case of the frog being put in a kettle of water where the temperature is gradually raised to a boil. That’s what’s occurring in the U.S. After 9/11, in addition to Homeland Security, we got the Patriot Act, with, among other things, its suspension of habeas corpus.

That means that the government can lock anybody up for any reason and not even have to tell them why. Accuse them of being an “enemy combatant” – a neologism that justifies anything and is robotically and thoughtlessly accepted by Boobus americanus – and anything is possible. Including a trip to a CIA black site in some Third World hellhole.

This is something I thought was settled in Western Civilization with the Magna Carta and King John. But we’re going backwards in most areas of personal freedom. And America, of all places, is leading the way – even while falling behind economically.

I don’t know if I can put my finger on exactly when we’re going to go over the edge, but if I was going to guess I would think the real catalyst is going to be the next 9/11-type event. And I don’t doubt it’s going to happen.

How are we any different than the Germans in the 1930s? This was one of the most civilized, best educated countries in Europe and they fell into the abyss. I suppose we’re a bit different. Americans are addicted to welfare, anti-depressant drugs, food, and electronic devices. That should certainly give us a better outcome…

There’s a joke I like to tell. Let me ask you this: Which is the gravest danger? Is it the ignorance, or is it the apathy of the average American today? Stumped? Here’s the answer: I don’t know and I don’t care.
