Former Obama Chief of Staff Continuing This Sickening Democratic
Tradition, John Thomas | February 25, 2016
Many conservatives and
Constitutionalists believe theft is the Democratic Party’s modus operandi and, with the exception of a few principled (but misguided)
Democrats in Washington, maybe these critics are right.
If that’s the case, then former
Clinton administration insider and Obama administration Chief of Staff, who is
now mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, is just playing politics as usual for
Democrats (or for Chicago politicians, for that matter). Read what Austin Berg wrote about this situation,
“Chicago
Mayor Rahm Emanuel has his eyes set on the Old Main Post Office, and there’s a
good chance he won’t be denied.
“Emanuel’s
administration announced Feb. 20 its plans to seize the historic riverfront
property and solicit bids for redevelopment, according to DNAinfo.
“While
the U.S. Postal Service sold the building to investor Bill Davies in 2009, the
2.7 million-square-foot property has been left vacant since the mid-1990s.
Since then, many ambitious plans for the building have come and gone. Most
recently, Crain’s Chicago Business reported Davies was planning to finance redevelopment
of office, residential and retail space in the massive building, which serves
as the western gateway to the Loop.
“The
Fifth Amendment allows governments to seize private property for “public use”
through a process called eminent domain. But Chicago city officials clearly
have no interest in building a necessary road or government building. Instead,
city government will be serving as a middle man – taking the property from
Davies and transferring it to a developer it deems more suitable.
“That developer
would then essentially pay City Hall for its muscle in the deal, as city
officials clarified that the chosen developer would be on the hook for any
costs related to the seizure of the property.” (hat tip to here for the
source)
Think about this situation:
Emanuel’s administration has decided that it just wants to take the building
from a developer who had legally acquired it so that they can give it to the
developer that they prefer (with that preferred developer paying the costs of
acquiring the building, of course).
Basically, this appears to boil down
to a situation of a preferred developer (political contributor/insider?) using
the government for their own personal gain.
Isn’t that standard Democratic
politics? Sounds like Emanuel learned lessons from Nancy Pelosi and his former
bosses well.
This whole situation is simply
wrong, and, if there is any
justice in Chicago, it will not
happen.
What do you think about Emanuel’s
use of eminent domain in Chicago: theft or judicious use of government? Comment

Before UN
Agenda 21 implementation was imposed in the US, local government only imposed
eminent domain powers to build roads. Now, new land use plans are completely in
the hands of elected officials. This affront to individual property rights
allows for wholesale corruption.
To
restore the private economy, we need to return to the days when new
developments were funded by private investment, not subsidized and controlled
by tax dollars. Most of these bastardized developments fail, because the
investors are short term cronies playing “hot potato”.
