Our
immigration policy worked well 100 years ago. Immigrants could apply for
immigrant status at US Embassies in their own countries. Immigrants knew that they would need to spend
their own money to make this transition.
Relatives were required to support new immigrants during the transition
from Ellis Island to financial independence. The result was that our immigrants
were able to assimilate into American culture and succeed.
The
Immigration Act of 1980 needs to be replaced with our original immigration
policy. The US shut down immigration during the Great Depression and it should
return to basing immigration on our need for different categories of labor.
Immigrant
and Refugee Welfare must end. We cannot
continue to allow welfare recipients to immigrate to the US.
