Donald
Trump has picked former campaign rival Ben Carson to become secretary of the
Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Trump’s
decision, announced early today by his transition office, comes as the
president-elect continues a series of interviews, meetings with aides and other
deliberations aimed at forming his cabinet.
President-elect
Trump released a statement today: “We
have talked at length about my urban renewal agenda and our message of economic
revival, very much including our inner cities.”
“Ben
shares my optimism about the future of our country and is part of ensuring that
this is a Presidency representing all Americans.”
Carson’s
nomination will have to be confirmed by the Senate.

Carson’s job is to get HUD to stop its damaging activities
and turn it into a force to help clean up inner cities.
