Canada Economy


Canada has a population of 37 million with labor force participation at 20 million and a land area of 3.855 million square miles. Nominal GDP is $1.8 trillion, per capita GDP is $45,077 per year, GDP sectors are services 70.7%, industry 27.7%, agriculture 1.8%, Occupations include services 76%, manufacturing 13%, construction 6% agriculture 3%, Unemployment is 5.8%, Poverty is 12.9%, Inflation is 1.4%,   Main industries are transportation equipment, chemicals, minerals, food products, wood and paper, fish products,, petroleum and natural gas.

Exports totaled $390.1 billion in 2016, exports included motor vehicles and parts, industrial machinery, aircraft, telecommunications equipment, chemicals, plastics, fertilizers, pulp, timber, crude petroleum, natural gas, electricity and aluminum exported to the US 76.2%, EU 7.7%, China 4.1%, Japan 2.1% and Mexico 1.5%
Canada is the leading exporter with $35 billion in wood products going to the US, China, Japan, etc.

Imports totaled $416.6 billion in 2016, imports included machinery, equipment, motor vehicles and parts, crude oil, chemicals, electricity and durable consumer goods imported from the US 52.2%, China 12.1%, EU 11.4%, Mexico 6.2% and Japan 3%.

Government debt was 98.2% of GDP in 2017, revenue was $623.7 billion, spending was $657.3 billion.


54% of Canada’s land mass is forest with 344,000 square miles of fresh water. The population lives in the south in or near major cities. The north is mostly wilderness forests, lakes and islands.
