US State Admission

The original 13 colonies applied for admission as States in 1787 1788 and 1790. Additional territories formed and applied for admission from 1791 and to 1912. Alaska and Hawaii were added in 1959.

The Harrison Land Act of 1800 created the framework for US public land policy for twenty years. Under the act, half sections of 320 acres were to be sold at two dollars per acre, and purchases were allowed on credit.

Between 1862 and 1934, the federal government granted 1.6 million homesteads and distributed 270,000,000 acres (420,000 sq mi) of federal land for private ownership. This was a total of 10% of all land in the United States. Homesteading was discontinued in 1976, except in Alaska, where it continued until 1986.

The Indian Wars ended in 1924. America's real longest war was the conflict against Indigenous Americans, called the American Indian Wars, which most historians characterize as beginning in 1609 and ending in 1924 or 313 years, mainly over land control. – goggle
