Dunwoody Problems 1-12-25

The City of Dunwoody GA was formed in December 2008. The issues included poor road maintenance and too many apartment in this suburban area. The vote to establish Dunwoody coincided with US Agenda 21 implementation in the US. States were divided into Regions and Regional Commissions were appointed, not elected. The plan was to establish “Transit Villages” in large cities. The plan failed because the transformation was costly and unpopular. The left-overs of this mistake continue today.

In the Atlanta Metro, MARTA trains and busses were promoted, ignored and rejected by the voters and riders, who were largely suburban. MARTA was expanded to include connections to Large Shopping Malls and these Malls are failing. Some failed Malls are becoming Apartment cities with some office buildings.

Dunwoody 2024-2029 Spending Plan

Road Resurfacing $14.9M

Chamblee Dunwoody Corridor $7.3M

North Shallowford Path $3.9M

Mt Vernon Corridor Vermack Rd. to Gramercy Ct. $4.1M

Georgetown Trail $3M

Road Resurfacing totaling $14.9M is a legitimate and necessary project.

Corridors totaling $11.4M may or may not be beneficial. Paths and Trails embedded in Corridor Projects are unnecessary.

Paths and Trails totaling $3.9M are detrimental, because they take up narrow road space.

The City of Dunwoody is a “City Manager” run city. The City Council has 6 Members and a Mayor, who presides at meetings. All are Democrats. Political Party is not included on Election Ballots. They follow a “Master Plan”. Perimeter Mall is in Dunwoody. All Paths and Trails go to MARTA at Perimeter Mall. The Council is focused on expanding projects to expand revenue. Projects do not go to the “lowest bidder”. Engineering Companies do all the planning. Project costs have tripled. An appointed Business Development board approves all bribes to newcoming businesses. The Georgia Municipal League maintains control over all planning and staffing.

This is a very expensive way to run a 50,000 population suburban city.  Congress needs to formally cancel US adoption of UN Agenda 21 that occurred under President George HW Bush. State Legislatures need to repeal their Regional Commissions and return to local control by Cities and Counties. The US Congress needs to defund DOT Grants for unnecessary parks and paths.

Norb Leahy, Dunwoody GA Tea Party Leader
