Meeting with Putin 8-16-25

Trump is replacing War with Total Economic Isolation. To end the War in Ukraine, Trump would impose high Tariffs on countries importing oil from Russia. Trump wants a “Cease Fire”.

Countries buying Russian oil in 2025

Despite sanctions, several countries continue to import oil from Russia in 2025, largely leveraging discounted prices and diversifying their energy sources. Here's a breakdown of the key players:

Major buyers

·       China: Remains the largest importer of Russian crude, purchasing about 2 million barrels per day. China's imports accounted for 47% of Russia's crude exports from December 2022 to the end of July 2025.

·       India: India has emerged as the second-largest buyer, with imports increasing to 2 million barrels per day in August 2025. India's Russian oil imports made up 38% of its total crude imports in the first half of August 2025.

·       Turkey: A significant importer of Russian fossil fuels overall, Turkey accounts for a substantial portion of crude oil and oil products purchases. In July 2025, Turkey was the third-largest importer of Russian fossil fuels, with oil products constituting 39% of their imports from Russia.

Other importers

·       EU (with exemptions): While the EU has imposed a ban on seaborne imports of Russian crude oil and refined products, exceptions exist for certain countries and via specific pipelines.

o   Hungary and Slovakia continue to import Russian crude oil via the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline.

o   Some EU countries, notably Hungary, France, Slovakia, Belgium, and Spain, import Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG). It's worth noting that the LNG imported via France might be delivered to other countries like Germany.

·       Egypt and UAE: Increased their crude oil shipments from Russia amidst Western sanctions.

·       Brazil: Primarily buys Russian oil products.

·       Saudi Arabia: Has also been importing Russian oil products, turning to discounted fuel oil during the summer months.

Note: The landscape of Russian oil imports is subject to ongoing geopolitical and economic factors, including evolving sanctions and shifts in global energy markets.

Several countries continue to import oil from Russia in 2025, although the landscape of Russian oil exports has significantly shifted since 2022 due to Western sanctions.

Here's a breakdown of the key buyers:

·       China: Remains the largest global buyer of Russian fossil fuels, importing a significant portion of Russia's crude oil exports.

·       India: Has become a major purchaser of Russian oil, increasing its imports considerably since 2022.

·       Turkey: Is a notable importer of Russian oil, particularly oil products.

·       EU (European Union): While overall EU imports of Russian oil have significantly decreased due to sanctions, some countries still import limited amounts:

o   Hungary and Slovakia: Continue to import Russian crude oil via the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline, benefiting from EU exemptions.

o   France, Belgium, and Spain: Import Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is not under the same sanctions as crude oil. It's worth noting that some Russian LNG entering France may be re-exported to other European countries like Germany.

Key trends to consider:

·       Discounts and Rerouting: Russia has been forced to offer significant discounts on its oil to attract buyers and has rerouted exports primarily to Asia, utilizing a "shadow fleet" of tankers to circumvent sanctions.

·       Sanctions and Enforcement: Western countries, particularly the US and the UK, continue to impose and enforce sanctions on Russian oil exports, including targeting the shadow fleet and lowering the oil price cap.

·       India's Shifting Position: India has faced pressure from the US regarding its oil imports from Russia, and there are reports of India exploring alternative suppliers and even pausing some imports in August 2025.

The Ukraine War is weakening Russia’s resources and NATO is providing Ukraine with Military Equipment. Ukraine will likely target Russia’s Military sites and bring the War to Russia.

China is building Coal-Fired Power Plants to produce electricity to reduce its vulnerability to natural gas demand.

Trump’s meeting with Putin was successful. Planning a successful “Cease Fire” is the next step. Putting the “Cease Fire: in place will require Putin and Zelenskyy to sign the “Cease Fire Agreement. This will order both Armies to cease hostilities.

The next step is the Negotiation over the Terms of a “Peace Agreement”. This will require both Putin and Zelenskyy to sign the Peace Agreement.
