We visited the Vatican in Rome on
Christmas Day 2001. We toured St. Peter’s Basilica and heard Pope John Paul II
repeat his Christmas message in 62 languages. What a sales guy!
I had studied Church History. I went
to the Vatican bookstore and bought a copy of “The Popes”. I was not surprised
to see the interference imposed by the State on the Church and the assassinations
suffered by the Popes at the hands of the Italian City-States to install their
own relatives. I was not surprised to see
the chaos in the middle-ages and the corruption prior to the Reformation.
