Key Details of EU-US LNG Imports in 2025

Largest Supplier: The United States accounted for 57% of all EU LNG imports in the first half of 2025.

Record Volumes: The first half of 2025 saw the highest level of EU LNG imports ever recorded, with more than half of that volume coming from American exporters.

Significant Increase: EU imports of U.S. LNG rose by 46% year-on-year in the first half of 2025. For example, in May 2025 alone, the EU imported approximately 4.6 billion cubic meters of U.S. LNG, nearly double the volume from May 2024.

Strategic Shift: This increase is part of a broader European strategy to move away from Russian energy sources following the invasion of Ukraine, with U.S. LNG filling a significant portion of the supply gap.

Ample Capacity: The EU has ample spare import capacity from a record 12 new LNG terminals and 6 expansion projects commissioned between 2022 and 2024, enabling it to handle the increased volumes.
