GDP by Country

Global GDP is $80 trillion, the global population is 7.6 billion and the global land area is 197 million square miles. The US GDP is $20 trillion, the US population is 325 million and the US land area is 3.8 million square miles.

The US creates 25% of global wealth with 4% of the population and 2% of the land area and we have had 30% of our land area warehoused as federal land and not in productive use. For those who are given much, much is expected.

In the US, the Industrial Revolution of 1820 to 1920, we saw the development of infrastructure and invention. The steam engine led to railroads and factories and electricity. We developed tools to improve construction and manufacturing processes using what we knew about physics and chemistry. We had established our Constitution to benefit the citizens and established our economy based on the free market controls.

The development continued past the 1920s as our new inventions were installed, but we had abandoned our free market controls and relied on central planning, big government and got political corruption and dysfunction.

In the period from 1920 to 2020, we have refined our technologies and expanded our capabilities and we are completing the second phase of the industrial revolution and we are $trillions in debt. The socialist policies we adopted are unsustainable.

In the US, we find ourselves as the largest economy of the top 16 economies on the planet that have a GDP of $1trillion or more.  Next we find about 50 countries with GDP from $100 billion to $1 trillion. Then we have another 50 countries with GDP from $20 billion to $100 billion. Finally, we have over 80 countries with GDP from $40k to $20 billion.

The purpose of sovereign governments is to ensure that citizens are able to feed and shelter themselves. All of these countries have a population and a land area to give some insight to their potential.

GDP, population and land areas are rounded. M=million, K=thousand, sm=square miles.

Observations

There is no reason for refugees to be placed in wealthy countries.  There are countries in Africa and South America with a large land area where refugees could be kept until they can return to their home countries. It would be cheaper for wealthy countries to fund these closer to their home countries.

Countries with very large unused land areas like Russia need to adopt laws that encourage investment to increase resource production and build their economies to benefit their citizens. Russia’s GDP is $1.5 trillion, population is 144M and land area is 6.6 million square miles. They produce 2% of global GDP with 2% of the global population and 3.4% of the global land area. Much is expected.

Prosperous countries with little land area like Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong are successful because of their location and their know-how.

Poor countries with a large land area need to expand their water resources for agriculture, drilling, mining and infrastructure to increase food and resource production for their citizens and for export. Allowing citizens to own and work their own land is required to succeed.

Most of Africa, the Middle East and South America struggles with terrorists, criminal enterprises and dysfunction. Governments in these troubled countries need to get ahead of this problem. The West is going to shut their borders to refugees and stop excessive immigration.

GDP and Population for Syria and Venezuela look way overstated.
