Restoring Electronics 9-1-24

We need Taiwan Semiconductor’s help to develop Chip Manufacturing capability to the US. Taiwan Semiconductor should consider building a manufacturing facility in the US. If China persists in their threat to take over Taiwan, the US should allow Taiwan Semiconductor to move their equipment and workforce to the US. We also need to re-shore US electronics manufacturing to produce everything we consume.

We need to re-shore US appliance manufacturing to produce everything we consume. Our best manufacturing companies were sold to foreign manufacturers. The best we can do now is to settle for having these best companies continue to grow in the US. The best HVAC company the US had was Goodman. Daikin bought Goodman in 2012. Daikin revenue in 2023 was $29.5B. Daikin is a Japanese company.

Daikin-Goodman Manufacturing has manufacturing facilities in Houston, Texas; Dayton, Tennessee; and Fayetteville, Tennessee. Goodman's Daikin Texas Technology Park in Waller, Texas is the largest HVAC building in the United States. The 4.2 million square foot facility houses Goodman's manufacturing, engineering, logistics, and customer support.

The best US company for appliances was GE founded by Thomas Edison in 1889 and became a public company in 1896. They began with electricity and included light bulbs. In 1919, GE created RCA and sold radios. In 1926 GE founded NBC. In 1927 GE created television. GE owned radio stations and TV networks. GE developed supercharged engines used in World War I fighter planes and continued to develop engines for power generation. During World War II, GE became the largest manufacturer of airplane engines. GE developed computers in the 1950s, but sold its computer business to Honeywell in the 1970s.

The history of GE is a roadmap to bad decisions from betting on Direct Current Electricity and ignoring Alternating Current Electricity.  GE was the first to develop radio, television and computer technologies, but sold these to develop airplane engines. GE made the best ovens and microwaves, dishwashers, refrigerators and other kitchen appliances. They ended up off-shoring all manufacturing and becoming an Appliance Service company.

GE revenue peaked at $182.52B in 2007 and dropped to $62.92B in 2023.

Motorola, Inc. was an American multinational telecommunications company based in Schaumburg, Illinois. It was founded in 1928 as Galvin Manufacturing Corporation by brothers Paul and Joseph Galvin. The company changed its name to Motorola in 1947. After having lost $4.3 billion from 2007 to 2009, Motorola was split into two independent public companies, Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions, on January 4, 2011. The reorganization was structured with Motorola Solutions legally succeeding Motorola, Inc., and Motorola Mobility being spun off.

Motorola had pioneered wireless enabling the development of cell phones.

Motorola Solutions' revenue history from 1990 to 2023 is as follows:

  • 1990: $13.1405 billion
  • 1991: $12.4114 billion
  • 1992: $17.2219 billion
  • 1993: $22.24 billion
  • 1994: $27.04 billion
  • 1995: $27.97 billion
  • 1996: $29.79 billion
  • 1997: $31.34 billion
  • 1998: $33.08 billion
  • 1999: $37.35 billion
  • 2000: $30.49 billion
  • 2001: $27.28 billion
  • 2002: $23.16 billion
  • 2003: $29.66 billion
  • 2004: $35.26 billion
  • 2005: $42.88 billion
  • 2006: $36.62 billion
  • 2007: $30.15 billion
  • 2023: $9.978 billion

Motorola was a casualty of Globalism. NAFTA came first in the 1990s and eventually Asia took over global electronics.
