In the 1800s, the US completed its expanded from 1802 to 1848, with the Louisiana Purchase and the Mexican War. The Civil War 1860-1865 settled the slavery issue and confirmed the national belief in “Inalienable Rights”. The Industrial Revolution from 1850 to 1900 applied the technology discovered between the 1300s and 1800s and provided the wealth required to become a developed country.
In the 1800s, Medical Science was behind. Military equipment was ahead. The Civil War 1860-1865 taught us a lesson. Bullets were too large and soldiers would die from bacterial infections. Amputation was the treatment used in the civil war to deal with bullet-shattered bones. In 1860, Life expectancy in the US was 39.4 years. Water-borne diseases appeared in the 1800s as families moved from farms to crowded cities.
