The Teamsters are staging protests at non-union Amazon Warehouses because they have failed to win representation at Amazon.
Amazon national spokesperson Kelly Nantel told FOX Business last week that "there is no strike" and branded the movement as a "protest."
"There are no Amazon employees or drivers who are involved in this activity. What we have is a protest that has been created and manufactured by the Teamsters to make a point," she said, adding, "But I think it's really important that viewers understand that the Teamsters don't represent any Amazon employees, and they don't represent any of our third-party drivers either."
The NLRA Law requires that Unions who want to organize need to have cards signed by employees calling for an election. The Teamsters Union has failed to garner support from Amazon Drivers, so they are protesting. There is a case for removing the Teamster Protesters from the Amazon sites, because they are trespassing and disrupting operations.
Each Amazon warehouse is viewed as a separate unit and can legally be closed and replaced by a new location that is 50 miles from the organized site if a union is authorized to represent them in an election. A picket-line strike is allowed if the NLRB certifies the election.
The Teamster’s protest is an “illegal stunt” they are using to bypass the NLRB requirement for an election. It was planned to disrupt Christmas shopping. The Biden Administration NLRB has allowed this illegal protest to occur, but the Trump Administration will follow the “rule of law”.
The real threat to Amazon is the re-opening of retail stores. Amazon is counting on shoppers to continue to buy from them because is “convenient” and offers “quick delivery. The downside is when shoes and clothes don’t fit and need to be returned. Amazon also relies manufactured goods made in China and other low-wage countries. Amazon sales are threatened by the return of manufacturing to the US when US consumers demand better quality.
Amazon Drivers earn $18 per hour and are well paid for what they do. A few short years ago, delivery drivers made $10 per hour. Amazon employees work hard and are paid appropriately.
