In 2025, Americans are receiving tens of billions of telemarketing and scam calls, with estimates from YouMail and PIRG suggesting monthly averages around 2.5 to 4.3 billion calls, putting the annual total well over 30 billion (e.g., 32.5 billion by July, pace for 40+ billion for the year). These figures show a significant increase over 2024, with various reports indicating a 7% to over 20% rise in unwanted calls, driven largely by marketing and scam operations.

Year-to-Date (YTD) Volume: Over 32.5 billion by July, with projections suggesting the year will exceed 2024's total by over 7%.

Annual Projections: The first ten months of 2025 saw approximately 44.5 billion robocalls. The total annual volume of all robocalls has historically hovered around 50 to 55 billion calls.

Monthly Average: From January to September 2025, Americans received an average of 2.56 billion unwanted scam and telemarketing calls per month. The total average monthly volume for all robocalls was often over 4 billion calls.

Unwanted Calls Share: Scam and telemarketing calls consistently account for the majority of robocalls, making up around 56% to 60% of all volume.

Individual Impact: Approximately 31% of American adults reported receiving at least one scam call a day, with 21% receiving several daily. 

Regulatory Context

Despite federal laws like the Pallone-Thune TRACED Act and efforts by the FCC and FTC, robocalls and telemarketing calls reached a six-year high in 2025. Many phone companies had not fully implemented the necessary call-fighting software as of September 2025.
