Chicago ICE Riots 10-10-25

Riots and clashes between protesters and federal agents began taking place in Chicago in mid-2025, with significant escalations reported in both June and September-October. There was no single "ice riot" start date, but rather a series of escalating protests and violent confrontations related to immigration enforcement. The term "ice riots" refers to these anti-ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) protests and the clashes that resulted from them.

Key events in 2025:

·       June 2025: Major protests against ICE raids occurred in Chicago and other U.S. cities.

·       September 2025: A wave of clashes between protesters and federal agents began at an ICE facility in the Chicago suburb of Broadview. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) cited these incidents when discussing anti-government extremism.

·       Late September 2025: DHS announced a large-scale immigration enforcement operation called "Midway Blitz" in Chicago and Illinois, which intensified tensions.

·       October 2025: Multiple incidents resulted in violence:

o   Protesters and federal agents clashed at the Broadview facility, with agents deploying pepper balls and tear gas.

o   A protester was shot and wounded by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents during a vehicle incident in Chicago.

o   A group of journalists filed a lawsuit against the government, alleging "extreme brutality" by federal agents during the protests

There were no reports of "Chicago ice riots" in 2025. However, beginning in June and intensifying in October 2025, there were multiple protests and clashes with federal agents related to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This unrest was tied to a large-scale immigration enforcement campaign called "Operation Midway Blitz".

Key events during this period include:

·       Protests against ICE raids: Thousands protested Trump administration immigration policies in downtown Chicago starting in June 2025.

·       Escalation at the Broadview ICE facility: Weeks of intense protests occurred outside the Broadview, Illinois, ICE facility. Federal agents used tear gas and pepper balls against demonstrators who were attempting to block vehicles.

·       October 4 vehicle ramming and shooting: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) alleged that a convoy of protesters "ambushed" Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents by ramming their vehicles. In the incident, CBP agents shot and wounded a woman they claimed was armed.

·       National Guard threat: Following the clashes, President Trump threatened to deploy National Guard troops to Chicago, a move opposed by Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and other state officials, who ultimately sued to block the deployment.

“Free Speech” should not include violent protests that result in property damage and “obstruction” of ICE from arresting Illegals for Deportation.
