Georgia Regional Transportation Tax – A Disaster

GDOT (Georgia Department of Transportation) will control the funds.

If the Regional Transportation Tax passes.cities and counties will lose sovereignty, decision making ability and control of road tax funds. All decisions about roads will be made by the GDOT. County commissioners will grovel at the GDOT’s doorstep and we expect them to be ignored.

Taxpayers will go nuts when they realize that the unelected, unaccountable and unresponsive Georgia Regional (Soviet) Politburo is completely in charge of their road tax dollars . City Council Reps and County Commissioners will need GDOT approval to do anything. All road work in the State of Georgia will be controlled by the unelected Regional (Soviet). GDOT will approve all projects and do all the work. Cities and counties will not be able to contract with road construction and maintenance companies without GDOT approval. This will produce corporate cronyism on steroids and will gridlock all roadwork in the State.

How Does this Work ?

The Ballot states tha (we are voting whether or not) our “County’s transportation system and the transportation network in this region and the state be improved by providing for a 1 percent special district transportation sales and use tax for the purpose of transportation projects and programs for a period of ten years.”

So, the tax goes to some transportation system or network (not specifically for roads), It could all go to light rail that doesn’t go where you need to go. It could go for CIDs to create “transit villages” . It could go for projects in your County, or somebody else’s County or City or to the State or to MARTA or AMTRAK. If you pay for roads with a city or county property tax, the GDOT would control that money too.

In the meantime, your roads will deteriorate further. It could go to a County, but not necessarily. It could also to the Region or the State and whatever “transportation system and network” the Region or State envisions. The entire tax could be redirected to building a light rail across the State. It is not likely to be used to reduce your road traffic congestion or make your road improvements. These folks hate cars and can’t wait to get us out of them.

Sold Down the River by our Republicans

The Georgia Regional (Soviet) Apparatchik is appointed by the Governor, so you might assume that the Governor is now in charge of your city and county transportation and not your County Commissioners. The Governor also appoints the GDOT.

All is Lost in Georgia

In Georgia, most Republicans are Democrats. Sonny Perdue and Bad Deal were Democrats before they were Republicans. At least Zell Miller was really a Republican; he just didn’t figure that out until later. Sam Nunn may have been the last Georgia Republican to hold office. Sam was actually a Democrat, though you wouldn’t know it. Democrat meant something else in those days. . Now, in Georgia most Democrats are Socialists, though some are probably really Republicans.

GDOT runs Hot & Toll

These are the same people who brought you your beloved HOV and TOLL LANES and TOLL ROADS and STOP LIGHTS ON HIGHWAY ENTRY RAMPS. You weren’t able to stop them, were you ? Now they are building a “Divergent Diamond” on Ashford Dunwoody, so you can pull off I-285 and find yourself on the left side of the road.

Vote NO

If the Georgia Regional sales tax passes,it’s over. The passage of this tax will legitimize the entire Regionalism Scam and the U.N. will be pleased. It’s like ObamaCare; the more you learn about it, the less you will like it.

Repeal TIA

After we all vote NO on the sales tax, you will need to demand that the Georgia Legislature pass a Bill repealing the Transportation Investment Act of 2010. This puts the GDOT back in its box and we should send this box to Haiti.
