An Open Letter to all who voted for TIA

Dear HB 277 “yes” voters:

If you read HB 277, it proposes to add “certain powers” to the GDOT. If you thought more powers would make GDOT less incompetent or less corrupt, you were wrong.

It directs the “director of planning” to remove certain restrictions from public transit authorities. This is presumably the removal of the requirement that MARTA was restricted to keep certain funds for capital projects only. It is good that MARTA can now use that capital project money to begin to use it for their $3 billion maintenance backlog.

UN Agenda 21

You are setting up a Soviet system of appointed, unelected governments as prescribed in UN Agenda 21.

The Georgia Coordinating Committee for Rural and Human Services Transportation is an Agenda 21 Obama requirement. It’s a total waste of money and worse it sets up another agency to work with the politburo you are building.

The creation of “special transportation taxing districts” is another Agenda 21 requirement to undermine legitimate city and county elected officials and turn their control over and responsibility for roads to appointed, unaccountable, unelected regional bureaucrats.

Next you removed the sales tax cap, again according to Agenda 21. The US must be totally broke and so far in debt, we our “useful idiots” won’t complain when we become an official part of the U.N. Socialist, Totalitarian, Global Government.

Finally, you set up a “citizens review panel” to rubber stamp every scam that is funded by these transportation sales taxes and worse, cut deals with insiders.

Then in Section 1, you want to expand the powers of the “commissioner of transportation”, but that the Transportation Board, the Director of Planning and the Governor also have their say. I think Transportation Czar would be a more up-to-date title for the “commissioner”. The original title was Commissar.

In Section 2, you put the Director of Planning in charge of all roads in Georgia and create a “House transportation committee” and a Senate transportation committee to provide political cover. . Do County Commissioners and City Council Reps know they’ve been replaced ?

This is Soviet style central planning by unelected bureaucrats and its failure is evidenced by the miserable judgment exercised in compiling the Final List.

In Section 3 you remembered to remind MARTA not to use their new funds to bail out their union pension plan or give themselves raises – I’m so relieved. And you replaced all the MARTA board members with new crooks and imbeciles.

In Section 4, you created a Georgia Coordinating Committee for Rural and Human Services to usurp the private groups whose “shear numbers” require government interference.

In Section 5, you imposed a 2% cap on sales tax increases, which tells me that another 1% sales tax can’t be far behind. You also added the exception that when the EPA condemns county sewer systems, they can add all the sales taxes they want. I’m sure they will stick with Bonds for now to double their cost and ensure their future bankruptcy.

In Section 6, you usurped city and county sovereignty and destroyed “home rule” by creating Regional Soviets. Dunwoody has funds for roads, but now the GDOT will make all the decisions – great.

In Section 7, you created the Atlanta Regional Commission to ensure that a majority of our transportation dollars will be spent on MARTA, a failed public transit organization that provides transportation for 5% of the Metro Atlanta population. This will ensure that, our roads will be ‘toast’ and our road congestion will have no funds available to correct the problems.

Norb Leahy, Dunwoody GA Tea Party Leader
