In
theory, politicians are tasked with shepherding the “will of the people”, but
it never happens. Government is it’s own
entity and those who work for government will tend to perpetuate it and make it
grow even when it is against the “will of the people”. Our campaign finance laws give us government
leaders who will serve the large, consistent contributors. They are allowed to become Governors and
others who control our legislative agendas.
Legislators who don’t support the approved agenda are suppressed. Every year we do “more of the same” and we
allow government to waste $billions on programs that don’t work. Large wasteful
bureaucracies lobby to ensure their self-perpetuation and discourage
cost-saving initiatives that would improve their results.
Politics
is subject to corruption when government assumes responsibilities it was not
meant to handle. When leaders allow
government to do this, costs increase and results suffer. Our free market system requires that
consumers pay for whatever products and services they need, but when government
begins to subsidize these, their price is corrupted by the subsidies.
Healthcare,
education and government itself are examples of what happens when the free
market is not allowed to establish the prices.
These mistakes were made because Legislators were trained to not
interfere with the agenda and stop these errors. The US Constitution helped keep Legislators
from passing unconstitutional laws until the 1870s, when leaders and their
cabals went on a campaign to “protect” undeveloped lands in the Western US
States. Voters went along with the scam
and the first unconstitutional act was passed and signed into law without the
Amendment it would have required.
Being “on
the team” was one of the behavioral control mechanism that allowed our
politicians to wander off the Constitutional ‘reservation’ and destroy our
country. We have a lot of unconstitutional laws on the books that need to be
repealed. This would mean the closing of federal departments, agencies and
programs that are harmful, irrelevant and unsustainable.
