50 years of reading the Federal Register

“Having our government is like being married to a drug-addicted cocktail waitress who sleeps around.” – Norb Leahy

I was always the one in the company responsible for government regulatory compliance, so I read the Federal Register, got BLS and CCH reports and alerted my fellow managers to new requirements.   I witnessed a tsunami of laws being launched at businesses as Lyndon Johnson took the Whitehouse in 1964 and was knee deep in regulations by 1967.

I read all the Labor Laws and knew what they said.  So, I knew what I had to do to comply.  I chose to do this as easily and cheaply as possible because I viewed most of these laws as unnecessary pandering to political constituencies.  I didn’t hold company meetings, but just sent memos to management summarizing each regulation’s requirements and maintained the company policy manual.

I answered discrimination complaint myself.  I never lost a dispute.  I wrote my own benefit plan documents from outlines in the CCH.

I picked lawyers who liked my “hands-on” approach and asked for help when I disagreed with the compliance agency.

I believed that approving policy was a CEO and Board of Directors function, so in policy areas that didn’t involve government regulations, I wrote it to reflect the CEO’s views.

I continued to hire the best qualified for the job and found them in all flavors.

In 1974, Nixon imposed wage controls and limited increases to 5.5% so I went to the CCH and pulled out the regulations but they were vague.  I called the lawyer in charge of this in DC and he said my calculations sounded correct.
.
In 1975, I didn’t stop using tests for employees because of anti-discrimination laws, I kept the tests and reviewed them to ensure there was no adverse impact.

I enjoyed the lack of mindless regulations during the Reagan years 1980 to 1988

In 1989 when George HW Bush took over, I saw a relentless assault of mindless regulations streaming through on every issue.  Immigration doubled quietly from 500k to 1 million a year. Nobody wanted to close the border or drill oil.  Congress passed laws to remove self-funded medical plans. Illegal immigration increased.

In 1993, Bill Clinton tried to pass HillaryCare but failed. He signed the Community Reinvestment Act and allowed HUD rules requiring lenders to give mortgages to unqualified buyers.  Clinton also passed NAFTA.  After the passage of NAFTA, I opened a private consulting practice and continued to handle regulatory compliance.

In 2008, the mortgages that had been given to unqualified buyers had been turned into securities that had turned into toxic assets.  The Fed bailed out the banks with printed dollars.

In 2008, Obama was elected.  Democrats passed Obamacare and Obama went on a tear to implement UN Agenda 21.  Immigration doubled to 2 million a year and millions of jobs had been sent overseas.

In 2011, I started the Dunwoody GA Tea Party. My focus was UN Agenda 21 implementation.  The federal government was giving bribes to State and local governments to implement UN Agenda 21.  Multi-National Corporations had joined government to destroy the US.

In 2015, excessive immigration was increased with refugee resettlement in the US and Europe.

In 2016, the UK voted to leave the EU to avoid any more UN Agenda 21 abuse.  This could mean the unraveling of Agenda 21 and unelected global governance.  If Trump is elected, Agenda 21 in the US will stop and a lot of our problems will go away.

Norb Leahy, Dunwoody GA Tea Party Leader
