The last surge in illegal immigration was in the 1980s when Reagan lowered income tax rates and unleashed a housing boom and illegals showed up on their own in the US to build homes, remove tree and expand the US suburbs without the Cartels. This time illegals owe money to the Cartels and can’t find good skilled jobs.
The surge in the 1980s produced high unemployment for US minorities and prevented US grads from entering the trades.
Legal Immigration from 2009 to 2016 admitted 1.9 million refugees per year, most from Muslim countries. We joined Europe for their Muslim invasion. During that time the US graduated 1.9 million students and created 1.9 million jobs a year. The refugees got the jobs.

The illegal immigration mess has worsened. 7 million illegals are on welfare and working for the drug cartels. They are arriving by boat to avoid crossing the Mexican border. They continue to arrive and number 200,000 per month or 1 million every 5 months.
