In 1996, both Democrats and Republicans believed that getting a balanced budget and welfare reform needed to be achieved.  Each thought that they would not be re-elected if they failed.


Comments

Currently, Democrats believe that they will not be re-elected if they do not obstruct the Republican policies.  This may not be the case in 2018.
