Upgrading Government Computer Systems 5-14-25

Upgrading FAA Air Traffic Control Systems is being proposed. The cost of the upgrade is estimated to be $30 billion and could take 3 years to complete. The replacement system is expected to be updatable. The current System is not updatable. The new system will allow the merger of ground and satellite systems.

Changes include swapping out old telecommunications for "new fiber, wireless and satellite technologies"; "installing new modern hardware and software"; replacing 618 old radars; and building six new air traffic control centers and replacing towers, the Transportation Department said.

AI systems can continuously monitor air traffic, identifying potential conflicts earlier than human controllers. These systems can suggest optimal resolutions, allowing controllers to manage situations efficiently and safely.

The U.S. is undertaking a major upgrade of its air traffic control system to improve safety, reduce congestion, and modernize outdated technology. This plan involves building new control centers and towers, installing new ground location systems, and upgrading various systems like radar, telecommunications, and software. The modernization efforts aim to replace aging equipment and integrate new technologies to enhance air traffic management and streamline operations, according to an article by the AP.

Key aspects of the upgrade:

New Infrastructure: The plan includes building six new air traffic control centers and 15 new towers, along with modernizing existing facilities.

Ground Systems: Two hundred more airports will receive high-tech ground location systems to track planes on the ground more accurately, reducing the risk of collisions, reports the AP.

Technology Upgrades: The plan involves replacing 618 outdated radar systems, upgrading telecommunications with new fiber, wireless, and satellite technologies, and installing new hardware and software.

Staffing: Efforts are also underway to increase the number of air traffic controllers to ensure adequate staffing for the modern facilities and systems.

Cost: The modernization effort is estimated to cost tens of billions of dollars, requiring congressional support.

Further upgrades for Government Computer Systems will be needed to apply AI to automate government work and improve productivity. Government Databases will need to use AI to interconnect the databases to increase accuracy and prevent deterioration. The US Census System needs to identify the number of US citizens in the population. Nominal GDP needs to identify the Private Sector GDP compared to the Government Spending GDP.

The US Income Tax Form 1040 needs to be simplified, so we can tell where on the form to put taxable income and allowable deductions.
