Government is an Expensive Utility

I support the notion that government is a utility company much like a Co-op Electric company.  There are a limited number of things I would have government do.  There are many more things government does I believe are unnecessary and need to be left to the private sector and families.

We need clean water, sanitary sewers, water treatment plants, roads, highways, bridges, storm sewers and reservoirs to prevent floods and maintain an ample water supply.  These are the primary responsibilities of government and the most expensive. We get the other things we need like electricity natural gas, telephones and television from utility companies.

There are a number of things government could send back to the private sector including garbage collection, public transportation, recreation and hunting preserves.

There are additional things government spends money on that they shouldn’t have anything to do with like healthcare and education.  Healthcare and education need to be a free market expense to keep prices low and education has turned into propaganda.

Government needs to stop all subsidies to private sector entities.  Economic development is not government’s job and neither is tourism or marketing or research for any industry.  Government needs to repeal most regulations that are currently imposed on private businesses.

The Federal government needs to get out of every area that is not specifically allowed by the US Constitution’s enumerated powers and send these responsibilities to the States and the People.

Our economy needs to follow the rule of supply and demand in order to establish an accurate market price.  This requires that government removes all subsidies and allows the consumer to pay for all goods and services.  If prices are too high, they will not buy and prices will fall.

Campaign contributions for candidates for elective office need to be limited to registered voters and should only be allowed for candidates who would appear on their ballot. Special interest groups can exercise their own free speech on their own websites.
