Police Shoot Hostage Takers

Watch Police Make Daring Call When Thief Takes Hostage

Police brutality has been receiving a lot of attention in the news, but it’s a good reminder to mention the tough situations police are put in during their line of work. The other day, a robbery suspect took a hostage as a shield when confronted with police. The police didn’t have a lot of time to respond.

According to The Blaze: A robbery suspect was shot and killed by police near Dallas, Texas, Friday after taking a female hostage. Two Irving police officers respond to a robbery in the afternoon when the suspect took a female hostage and threatened her with a handgun if cops didn’t back down, KDFW-TV reported.

Video captured the harrowing scene that unfolded next. One of the officers fired a single shot that struck the suspect in the head killing him and causing him to fall to the ground. The hostage escaped with no physical injuries.

“The suspect rounded the corner and put the hostage into a car. At that moment, realizing the hostage’s life was in danger, the officers opened fire – striking and killing the suspect,” Irving police spokesman James McClellan told KDFW.

What’s interesting is how quickly the policeman assessed the situation and risk, and took down the robber. Had he simply been caught stealing, he may have ended up with probation or a little jail time. Instead, his impulsive decision to take a hostage and use her as a shield lead to his death.
