Government
needs to get out of the way. Congress
doesn’t need to bail out the insurance companies; they just need to remove all
regulations and let them operate. Higher premiums should go to the higher
claims filers. If the healthy don’t want insurance, they should be free to
choose. The reason for the unsustainable cost of healthcare is excessive
government subsidies. Congress must pass
a 10 year budget for healthcare that reduces government subsidies by 5% each
year for 20 years. Providers will
respond by lowering their costs.
If the
young and healthy can find a cheaper policy with lifetime limits, they will buy
these. The $1 million lifetime limit was
alive and well 20 years ago. Providers need to make sure their costs don’t exceed
that. Hospitals already have a bad name
because of government meddling. Post Op
infections are too high and cross contamination of everything is too high.
Defensive medicine for price gouging and to avoid malpractice suits is huge.
Providers
made this bed and they will need to clean it up to comply with the laws of
economics. If the price is too high,
consumers will not buy. The days of the $15,000 birthday party are over.
