Danger, College Ahead

Don’t take out Student Loans
The interest on Sallie Mae student loans is 6%.  Loans are repayable upon graduation. Graduates who can’t find jobs paying at least $30,000 a year can’t afford to pay off these loans unless they continue to live with their parents.

Some Degrees are Valuable
Engineering degrees that are the most valued and in demand are worth getting, but you have to want to be an Engineer.  Electronics Engineering degrees have been on the high end.  Most of this curriculum is Math. Mechanical Engineering degrees are in less demand, because too much manufacturing has been off-shored. Other Engineering degrees can pay less, like Civil Engineers.

Most Degrees are Worthless
Degrees in Black Studies, Women’s Studies and other “political degrees” are worthless unless you can get books published.  Degrees in Art History are not in demand.  Environmental Degrees are over-subscribed.  Government jobs will become tighter as voters fight to shrink their tax bills.

College is too Expensive
College costs 5 times more than it should.  The current cost of tuition per quarter is about $5000. Spending $15,000 a year in college and putting it on your Sallie Mae credit card will result in a loan balance of $60,000 just for tuition. When you graduate, monthly interest charges are added to your loan balance. Your loan balance could quickly double.

In 1961, college tuition was $500 per semester or $1000 per year. I worked my way through high school and collage as a musician. I took 20 hours per semester, worked 6 nights per week and graduated in 3.5 years. I bought my own cars and earned my own money. I lived at home and commuted to college.

College is Indoctrination
Most college faculties are bastions of Marxist Liberalism. Most of what they preach is wrong. Their “facts” are rigged and their conclusions are absurd.

College is an Unaffordable Luxury
Most of the money poured into colleges went to turning the campuses into luxury resorts.  Kids want to go and live on campus and don’t think about the high costs or the lack of value.

Internet Education is Better
If you just want to learn the truth about any subject, you are better off at home looking up topics on the internet. You can access both sides of any issue. Tuition is free. All education is self-education.

Do I need a College Degree to have a Career
No. If you’re smart and can get a job that allows you to learn all aspects of your department, you can end up managing the department. Smart people who have a good plan for improving the work and who others follow become Leaders.

Do what you Love
Successful people do what they love. They figured out what they enjoyed and were good at and made sure they took jobs where their skills would be needed and used.
