Good
job Sterling Heights. The Sterling Heights
City Council in Michigan had a problem. They had to debate a proposed mosque
that local Muslims wanted to build. It was strongly opposed by the
community, but the city was concerned about political correctness.
The building would have been 20,500
square foot in a residential zone, causing major traffic congestion. In
addition, the group wanting to construct the building has been linked to extremism.
But ultimately, with more than 240
people filling the City Hall building, it was defeated. With a vote of 9 to 0,
the city suggested they will also oppose building of smaller mosques in the
future as well. Hundreds of other protesters, unable to fit inside, started a
rally outside where they sang “God Bless America” while chanting “no more
mosques.” As one person told the local media, “This doesn’t seem like Sterling
Heights. I feel like I’m in Baghdad.”
