When you have to fix something, you really don’t
need a committee to assign it to. You
need to roll up your sleeves and fix it.
Corruption in the Congress resulted from
unconstitutional laws and actions. In
1860, I’m sure that when Lincoln ignored the Confederate States rights to
secede from the union, he wanted to preserve what he knew would be a large and
prosperous country. When the union won in 1865, it was easier to violate the
Constitution again by establishing National Parks and federal lands. Again in
1913, it was easier to violate the Constitution again by establishing the
Federal Reserve and imposing the Income Tax. Since then, Congress has
thoroughly trashed the Constitution and rendered the federal government
insolvent by adding expenses that were never put in the Constitution, because
that would end in bankruptcy and the end of national sovereignty.
The way to fix this is to make the federal
government compliant with the Constitution (as written). You can do this by
identifying all federal activities that are not granted by the States in the
enumerated powers. For those Congress
wants the federal government to retain, they can write an Amendment and send it
to the States for ratification. For
those activities that might work better in the States, Congress can use the 10th
Amendment and assign it to the States and the People.
That needs to be done to repair our national
foundation. If this is not done, the courts will continue to “make up” what
they fancy the Constitution means and we will have fixed nothing.
