Surprisingly, some of the countries most reliant on agriculture
for securing their futures have environments that are unsuitable for farm
production.
Agricultural land refers to those portions of
land that are either arable, under permanent pasture, or under permanent crop
cover. Arable land refers to land that is capable of being plowed and used to
grow crops. Expansion of arable land will remain an important factor in many
countries that rely heavily on agriculture, especially in Latin America and
sub-Saharan Africa where populations, and their food needs, continue to grow.
According to a recent World Bank report, the countries with the smallest percentages of
land used for agriculture today include Suriname, Greenland, Singapore, the Bahamas, the
Seychelles, and Norway.

are: Suriname 0.53%, Greenland 0.57%, Singapore 0.95%, Bahamas 1.4%, Faroe
Islands 2.15%, Papua New Guinea 2.63%, Norway 2.7%, Brunei Darussalam 2.73%,
Seychelles 3.25%, Egypt 3.78%, Solomon Islands 3.86%, UAE 4.57%, Oman 4.74%,
Hong Kong 4.86%, Qatar 5.82%, Belize 7.01%, Canada 7.18%, Finland 7.43%, Sweden
7.48%, Central African Republic 8.15%, Guyana 8.52%, Kuwait 8.62%, Libya 8.73%,
Laos 10.12%, Equatorial Guinea 10.12%.
