WASHINGTON
— The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected President-elect
Donald Trump’s request to block criminal proceedings in his hush money case
in New York, meaning a sentencing hearing scheduled for Friday can go ahead.
The decision on a 5-4 vote with four conservatives dissenting meant the conservative-majority court changed course after having previously handed Trump two big wins last year. Trump is set to return to the presidency on Jan. 20.
The
brief unsigned order said the issues Trump wants to raise "can be
addressed in the ordinary course on appeal." The burden sentencing imposes
on Trump is "relatively insubstantial," the court added, because he
is not going to receive any prison time.
The three liberal justices were in the majority with Chief Justice John Roberts and fellow conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett.
Trump said he thought it was a "fair decision" and referred to further action he may take. "We're going to appeal anyway, just psychologically, because frankly it's a disgrace," Trump said in response to a question from a reporter at Mar-a-Lago, going on to criticize the case against him.

Mark Levin believes that the Supreme Court should find for Trump and dismiss the NY Case, because the NY State Court violated the “Supremacy Clause” of the US Constitution. By refusing to hear the NY Case, the Supreme Court set a precedent that ignores the Supremacy Clause. The Supreme Court’s primary job is to defend the US Constitution and they failed to do that by refusing to hear this case.
The Supreme Court prefers to take cases that have been decided by the Appellate Courts. This keeps Appellate Courts in check. The Supreme Court should have taken the “Election Integrity Case” in the 2020 US Presidential election. Congress may need to pass tighter Election Integrity Laws to include a “US Citizen-only” voter population and Picture ID. The Supreme Court should be Pro-active to ensure that US Law is in compliance with the US Constitution.
Returning Prayer to schools should allow prayers to “God” to be consistent with “under God” in the pledge of allegiance. This includes all Judeo-Christian and other religions.
