Lucy & the Football Trick

We need to make the Republican majority in the Senate a conservative majority if we want to change Washington.

Fellow Conservatives:
The latest news in Washington is that Republicans are now positioned to win a majority in the U.S. Senate this year.

Republicans need a net gain of 6 seats to win a majority and, according to the new Cook ratings, there are now 8 Democratic seats that fall into the Toss-up, Lean Republican, or Likely Republican categories.

So what happens if Republicans win a Senate majority?  Will Republicans stop Obamacare? Will they refuse to raise the debt limit and force the Democrats to balance the budget? Will they stop bloated farm bills that fund unrelated programs? Will they end corporate welfare programs like the Export-Import Bank, which forces taxpayers to support Russian companies?

It depends on the kind of majority we elect. If we elect more moderate Republicans, we can expect more debt, higher taxes, and permanent Obamacare. But if we elect true conservatives, we can stop these policies.

LUCY AND THE FOOTBALL TRICK

Republicans in Washington are already beginning to downplay expectations for what they can accomplish with a Senate majority.

According to Mike Allen at Politico, "Republicans are starting to worry about an expectations gap if they control the entire Capitol, arguing that it would still be difficult for a conservative Republican House and a moderate Republican Senate to pass ambitious legislation."

Lucy Football Sadly, these excuses are part of an all too familiar game. Conservative voters help Republicans gain power, but then the party's leaders refuse to fight for conservative principles. They make excuses and promise to fight another day, but that day never comes. They just make more excuses and repeat their empty promises.

It's time for conservatives to stop falling for the Lucy and the football trick and start electing people who actually share our values.

The Georgia Gold Dome knows the Lucy and the football trick as well as the House and Senate RINOs in Washington DC.  Our recent legislative session was proof of that.
It’s good to see Primary challengers from other States and know who they are.  If we send Paul Broun to the U.S. Senate, we will more than do our part.  For ourselves, we would do well to elect Dave Pennington as Governor and elect the conservative challengers to the State House and Senate.
