Dysfunctional Countries

In most countries, the voters are the workers and they rightfully look to their governments to allow them to feed and shelter themselves and prosper. Governments should know if their actions are abusive, negligent and irrelevant to the citizens, they need to get back on track to benefit their citizens.

In many cases, the priorities of the citizens are different from the priorities of the government. Corporate and special interest groups have different priorities. Actions that benefit some always adversely affect others. I understand Corporate involvement, but I am suspicious of special interest groups.

In many cases, elections are rigged in that the only candidates who arise are in the pockets of special interest and Corporate power groups.

In the US, we used to believe that Corporate and worker interests were the same, but that is no longer the case. The heads of US corporations that do business globally view themselves as global citizens, not US citizens.

The rules of the free market economy requires demand for the products citizens produce. These products need to be competitively priced and acceptable quality. Food products should be safe, full of nutrients and should taste good.  Durable goods should be reliable and should function well for a long time.

The development of new products that include the latest technology will often be aided by government subsidies. Japan has done this since we cloned them with a carbon copy of our US Constitution after 1945.  I’m sure they funded the development of the Prius Hybrid in 2000 and 2005 and that was a good thing. In the US, government was involved in the creation of our commercial transportation systems.

The US government has had “price supports” embedded in our Agriculture Program, but that is more like government subsidized crop insurance.

All governments seem to be obsessing over their GDP and I can understand why they spend time doing this, but products that are overpriced need to be challenged by competitors.
