GA Transportation Keep it Simple

A 10 cent increase in the Georgia gasoline tax should net an additional $300 million, if we are still selling 3 billion gallons of gasoline each year.  Add that to the $250 million from the school bonds and you have an additional $550 million.  We still want to make sure that these funds go to fixing the interstates, so we want to see a project list before this is passed. Don’t just toss it into the GDOT slush fund.  Don’t put toll roads or toll lanes in the metro area.  Don’t permit lanes to be dedicated to busses or trollies.  We are running out of lanes out here.
Leave local government gasoline sales taxes alone and let them handle county and city roads, streets and bridges. 
If part of the rationale for having the Interstate system is the movement of goods. We should note that Interstates that go through large cities actually delay the movement of goods.  Where possible, future interstate development should include a bypass highway. If the trucks need to come into the city, fine, but if they don’t they should be able to bypass these cities without losing any time.  Atlanta is certainly one city in need of a bypass.  Next is Nashville TN.
