Teen girls revolt
over transgender in locker room 'I think this is pure and simple bigotry' by Douglas Ernst
9/1/15
Almost 200 students at a
Missouri high school don't care if transgender student Lila Perry identifies as
a female — they want the senior to use the boys’ locker room.
“Boys needs to have
their own locker room. Girls need to have their own locker room and if somebody
has mixed feelings where they are, they need to have their own also,” Hillsboro
High School student Jeff Childs told
KMOV-TV, the local CBS affiliate on Monday.
Perry, who wants to use
the girls’ locker room, turned down the school's offer to use a gender-neutral
bathroom. The senior has identified as a girl since age 13.
“I am a girl. I
shouldn’t be pushed off to another bathroom,” Perry told the station. “There’s
a lot of ignorance. They are claiming that they’re uncomfortable. I don’t
believe for a second that they are. I think this is pure and simple
bigotry."
A small group of about
40 students joined a counter-protest in support of Perry.
The St. Louis
Post-Dispatch asked the high school's administrators for comment but were
referred to Superintendent Aaron D. Cornman. He would not comment on the issue,
but did release a written statement.
"The district
respects the rights of all students and appreciates the fact that the students
we are educating are willing to stand on their belief system and to support
their cause/beliefs through their expression of free speech,” Corman's
statement said, the newspaper reported Tuesday.

I don’t
remember Congress amending the Civil Rights Act to include homosexuals and transgender
as “protected classes”. I did notice
“non-discrimination rules” creeping into individual city ordinances and federal
government departments. So, why are school board lawyers jumping on this one
this early ? Would adding another locked bathroom open to all fix this ? Do the patients now have the keys to the
asylum ?
