We had always been involved in our church and got to know
church people well. In 1977, we were
elected Marriage Encounter Coordinators and in 1979 we were elected Engaged
Encounter Coordinators for Western Kansas.
We got to know our Methodist, Mormon and Lutheran counterparts and began
a process that brought blessings to us and to our 6 kids. We were the same
outspoken Conservatives but felt like we were in a protective bubble that made
our practical chores like work and living easier.
Over time, many of these church people came to see us to
find out how our Conservatism jelled with our Christianity. Many priests and
couples were like-minded, but others had not thought through our dedication to
our Constitutional values. They trusted
us because of our church work and were able to hear our reasoning.
We moved to Atlanta in 1983 and joined the Engaged
Encounter Team Community and continued to work in Marriage Ministry.
Our Charismatic friends had their own bubble that prompted
them to focus on all the spiritual activity around them. Our Cursillo friends
maintained their “walk with the Lord” in small groups and pot-luck suppers.
In 2011, we started the Dunwoody GA Tea Party and met all
the other Tea Party Leaders in Georgia and some in other states. These are Constitutional
Christians who work to save the US from economic devastation and political
corruption. Our bubble is a common cause.
It took the economic devastation of two world wars to kill off
Christianity in Europe. We work to
prevent a similarly destructive economic implosion in the US.
Norb Leahy, Dunwoody GA Tea Party Leader
