As TPP Signing Nears, Experts Warn U.S. Manufacturing Will
Suffer, by Sen. Jeff Sessions 1/2/16
"The American Automobile Policy Council recently issued
a report which stated that the TPP would threaten 90,000 American automotive jobs...
Ford released a statement opposing the deal. They argued that the TPP is not
adequately open and does not adequately open foreign markets to U.S.
goods...The White House's own study...claimed that TPP will decrease the growth
of manufacturing in the United States by 20 percent by 2030.
"We need to demand that people who sell in our
markets--and whose exports to the United States are critical to their economic
well-being--don't get to do this if they are not playing by the rules. They
don't get to manipulate their currencies. They don't get to subsidize their
manufacturing, and we are not going to allow them to use nontariff barriers to
prohibit the imports of American products.
"A nation that has the greatest economy in the world, a
nation that has the greatest military in the world must maintain a
manufacturing base."
