Immigration Reform Incrementally

We may get all Republicans to vote for a Bill that begins our path to restoring immigration policy to the meritocracy model if we simply remove the Chain Migration, Diversity Lottery and Anchor Baby provisions from the current Immigration law.

We should also end refugee resettlement in its current form, because all forms of refugee status should be temporary with the plan to return them to their home countries. We should move to a process that sets up refugee camps near the home countries of the refugees and not bring them to the US at all.

We would dodge the DACA debacle and the Wall funding issue and would end some the bad ideas that have crept into our immigration law.

We would still need to fund the Wall, tighten up the H1b visa restrict H2b visas and ensure a robust H2a visa system to support seasonal temporary labor for fruit harvests, but these could be done with a second Bill.

We also need to remove welfare eligibility from all immigrants.
