Before high resolution
satellites and the computerization of everything, spying was done by government
agents and their informers. As our
technology improved, we needed fewer agents and we know a lot more about other
countries.
It didn’t take long
for computer hackers to learn how to spy on the servers we keep our digital
data on. We saw viruses and malware
appear for years and we saw everybody buy software to protect our systems. This started a race between the hackers and
the software vendors and the race is still going on. It is similar to the contest between safe
crackers and safe manufacturers.
