LGBT Shakedown

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is shaking down state lawmakers to appease militants in the LGBT community and permit "gender identity" to dictate which bathroom transgenders use. They are distorting the law and arm-twisting lawmakers' to advance their misguided and dangerous agenda.

President Obama's sycophants at the Department of Justice have placed the LGBTQ "bathroom" agenda in their priority protection program and are now aggressively targeting North Carolina's recently passed HB2 law, the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act. The Act limits bathroom usage in public facilities to a person's actual gender, not their "identified" gender. The law provides common sense protections, although private organizations are not bound by the law.

The DOJ recently sent a threatening letter to North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory asserting that North Carolina's HB2 is in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination based on sex. The DOJ is now egregiously expanding its interpretartion of that 1964 law to include "gender identity." Employing draconian overreach, the letter threatens North Carolinians with lawsuits and the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funds unless they agree not to comply with the law.

In response, Governor McCrory told a Chamber of Commerce audience, "This is no longer just a North Carolina issue, because this conclusion by the Department of Justice impacts every state... something we've never seen regarding Washington overreach in my lifetime."

Any state with similar laws can be expected to be in the DOJ's crosshairs along with North Carolina.

It is both outrageous and infuriating that Barack Obama would use the DOJ in such a blatantly political manner.

NC Senator Phil Berger said in a press release, "This is a gross overreach by the Obama Justice Department that deserves to be struck down in federal court."

We wholeheartedly agree, which is why Liberty Counsel has offered North Carolina state leaders our legal services and counsel in that state's case since that state's attorney general is refusing to defend the law.

Our legal team is entrenched in the front lines of the battle to preserve liberty, life, and family every day, including "natural" marriage and common sense privacy protections. Our nationwide "Push For Liberty" campaign is rallying citizens to push back against judicial tyranny the type of government overreach the DOJ is now engaged in. And we stand against the coercion from corporations which oppose the NC law, even though they are not legally bound to adhere to it.

America's people of faith continue to be the targets of our nation's radical secularists.

I know that you do not want radical activists reshaping the moral, religious, and political landscape of our nation. TOGETHER, with your help and God's blessing, we will continue to engage and reverse attempts to turn our nation into a mere socialist shadow of our former greatness.
