Hunger Games

The US News Media has proven itself to be not the “free press” but rather the Empire’s Entertainment Ministry.  Like Rollerball, our masters have decided that we, the great unwashed, need to be entertained, held in suspense in dramas that cry for fans on both sides of a bloodthirsty game.  Our appetite for the level of fan mania can now only be seen overseas at the end of soccer games or in the US Presidential contest.  The blow-by-blow coverage was careful not to disclose much about the policies our two contestants would impose if they lived long enough to be elected.

Like Hunger Games, the purpose of the President Game is to outlive your opponent.  Our media commentators don’t much care about the policies these candidates would enact, but rather how well they averted attacks launched by their opponents and the media.  Megan Kelly kicked off the Games with the question to Trump about calling women pigs and she did it will all the glee of an evil little girl who likes to pull the legs off spiders.

According to “the rules”, the Ministry of Entertainment cannot spend much time comparing the policies of Presidential contenders.  They know that the few serious voters will look up these policies on the candidates’ websites.  They also know that the vast majority of uninformed voters will not do this.  They delight in seeing the uninformed voters being manipulated and they really don’t care who wins the election. There may be a few talking heads that care, but there are not many.

There are informed voters who are rooting for Hillary, but their careers depend on the continuation of the rigged economy we are suffering from. They are the corporations whose wealth is funding the Ministry of Entertainment and all but a few of our politicians.
