Long summer of 2016

Our summer season in Atlanta this year could be measured from April to November. The last one I can remember was in 1975. It started in March and ended in November. I had just arrived in Salina Kansas to work for Schwann Foods. My new colleagues took me boating in March and it was like summer. I remember one summer in the 1980s in Kansas when the temperature was 110 F for two weeks.  One winter it was -20 F below zero.

Since we moved to Atlanta in 1983, I can remember many warm fall and winter months.

I believe that “global warming” and man-made climate change is a hoax.  Carbon dioxide is a plant food and doesn’t need to be reduced.  We’ve had climate fluctuations for centuries based on a cycle that has more to do with the sun spots than our coal-fired electric plants.

For some perspective, here’s a little history about our climate.

The Medieval warming period occurred from 950 AD to 1250 AD.  This resulted in increased crop growth that, in turn allowed higher population growth.

The Little Ice age occurred between 1300 AD and 1500 AD. But remained cold until 1800 AD.  As temperatures gradually fell, crop growth declined.

Global population estimates report slow but steady growth from 10 million in 10,000 BC to 188 million in 1,000 BC to 390 million in 1400 to 1 billion in 1800 to 2.3 billion in 1940.to 3 billion in 1960, to 4 billion in 1975, to 5 billion in 1987, to 6 billion in 1999, to 7 billion in 2012.

Those who would be our “masters” think it is their responsibility to rule, but I doubt that they will succeed. They had predicted in the 1960s that we would run out of food, but we didn’t.  I believe that citizens all over the world will demand the right to grow their own food on their own land. But first they will have to reclaim their right to have their elected officials work for them.  Nobody wants to be Venezuela.
