Liberals
are carping about the lack of skills by US citizens, but it’s not true. We are
fully capable of doing the jobs required by the manufacturing companies we need
to make goods to sell to the US markets. Most of the engineering jobs that will
come with this manufacturing activity can easily be filled by US citizens. We
are also able to provide welders and technicians to build the pipelines and
border walls we need.
We’ve been
here before. In the 1970s, the US economy slumped and we laid off millions of
manufacturing workers and engineers. In the 1980s, we cranked up the
electronics industries with the PC and electronic controllers and community
colleges quickly trained electronics assemblers and technicians. We had no
trouble finding engineers or production workers.
The
workforce will follow the jobs if the jobs are real. But there needs to be evidence that the jobs
are there and then the workers will sign-up for training.
We took
another hit in 2008 with the mortgage meltdown and laid off more workers and
moved more jobs overseas, but we still have enough workers to support the work
we will need to do.
Companies
will want to be able to recruit foreign engineering students by offering H1b
sponsorship like they have always been able to do.
The
panoply of products being promoted by some companies include products that are
questionable. This includes self-driving cars and other esoteric
hallucinations.
