Cruz on Brexit

Ted Cruz Sends Clear Warning to DC and Europe About What’s Coming Their Way After ‘Brexit’ Vote, By Mike Miller (1 day ago) | World

Ted Cruz has commented on Britain’s vote in favor of leaving the European Union. “The British people have spoken clearly,” he said. He also said that the United States can learn from the referendum.

Cruz emphasized: “The results should serve as a wake-up call for internationalist bureaucrats from Brussels to Washington, D.C., that some free nations still wish to preserve their national sovereignty.” “The United States can learn from the referendum and attend to the issues of security, immigration and economic autonomy that drove this historic vote.”

Growing public anger toward immigration and migrants was a key factor in the vote to leave the EU.

Cruz’s entire statement, as reported by Texas Tribune Reporter Patrick Svitek: In April, Cruz blasted President Obama for saying he would push the UK to the “back of the queue” if the Brits voted to leave the EU:

“Rather than scolding our closest allies for even considering exercising their rights as a sovereign nation, the President of the United States should look for ways to make Brexit, if it happens, an opportunity to enhance and strengthen the special relationship between our two countries.”

Both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton supported “Remain,” while Donald Trump favored “Leave”.
